Garden of Unearthly Delights

, , , ...

Yesterday, from 1-5pm, I worked at uni. The job isn’t too hard, lots of fun and so far, I’ve met a lot of new people. I even met a girl from Malaysia with the exact same birthday as me! However, we’re not twins, as her favourite colour is blue and mine is yellow.

At around 6 I went to the ‘Launch of the Zine Resource Room’, in the old Balfour’s (a pastry company) factory. During the Fringe Festival, the resource room will be a place where zine creators can photocopy their material. On March 15 and 16, there will be a Zine Fair and workshops on blogging and writing.

The launch was really enjoyable. There were free drinks and watermelon in the very retro looking bar. We also went on a tour of the factory, which will be used as a venue during the Fringe. I was trying to figure out what rooms the pies were made in and what rooms the cakes were made in, but couldn’t figure it out. I met two bloggers who wrote about a politician. The politician must google himself, and found the blog...

The retro bar flirt The yummy watermelon is on the table

After about an hour I walked to the Griffin’s Head pub for an exchange/international student event. I think I drank 4 glasses of water, with lemon. I really like water with lemon, and it’s also turned into a hobby for me. It’s so much fun stabbing the lemon with the straw…you don’t find it funny? I think it’s an Australian thing  On Monday night we were all at another pub…and tomorrow night, we’re going to another pub…Oh and next Monday we’re going to a pub…and next Wednesday, we’re going clubbing…. I learnt, that in Sweden a vodka Redbull can cost $25!!!

Shaun (or perhaps it's Sean) The Sheep also had fun at the pub and read all about the Fringe

At 10.30, I met my dad at the Garden of Unearthly Delights as I had free tickets to see Nick Sun- Tear Out Your Eyes. If I had spent my hard earned money on those tickets, I would have been VERY disappointed. My uni tutor was also there, and seemed disappointed. My friend and her boyfriend don’t know rule 1 of the ‘Lets see a comedian’ rule book; Don’t sit in the front row. They also had free tickets and got picked on. The last 10 minutes of the show was Nick (if that’s his real name) yelling into the microphone, with an echo turned on. Not fun.

Anyway, the Garden is a really nice place to be. All the staff are so friendly and happy! I think I'd be extra happy if I worked there too. There are lights everywhere a carousel, a freak show, a club made from shipping containers….

Hold on!!

I so want a job where I get paid for dressing up :D

Valentines, lizard, teddies, the fridge and dragon fruit

, , , ...

Each Valentine’s Day you’re able to put a message in the newspaper. These messages can be for the person you love and who loves you back, the person you love who doesn’t love you back or even our wonderful politicians...

The Advertiser, p 55, 14 February 2008

Another lizard has made it’s home in our garden. My cat just stares at it, not knowing what to do. This is the same cat which is scared of mice and birds :left:

It's a lizard, eventhough it looks like a snake

These children’s toys are characters from ‘Play School’ a popular children’s series. Big Ted is smaller than little Ted...

No wonder children are so confused these days...p:

My mum likes buying stuff, especially food. She likes buying loads of stuff, bringing it home and storing it at the back of the fridge. Strawberries are usually never seen again, until they’re black and furry... Anyone remember the custard with the ‘Use by October’ stamp? It’s still in the fridge!!

One way to waste money

Purple circle- Fruit that has been in that container for AGES. If you want to go to hospital, eat it.
Red circle- Nalesniki, Polish pancakes. No one is ever going to eat these as they are only visible if you kneel down.
Blue Circle- Pre packages fancy lettuce. My prediction is, it will sit in the ‘crisper’ and get soft and furry.
Yellow Circle- The vegetable crisper. Once something goes in here, there’s an 85.87% chance of it never being consumed by a human as it will pose a health threat.
Red Crosses- Foods I wont eat; custard (that’s new custard that you can see in the pic), youghurt, cheese, sausages, creamed rice, jam, cheese, milk, Nalesniki, vegetable soup.

Dear Jennifer Hawkins,

Thank you for giving me an eating disorder.

Love Kim.

My mum also loves buying stuff that no one likes; weird cold meats for example. The other day, she bought a ‘Dragon Fruit’ or ‘pitaya’. We all tried some yesterday. I don’t know if it’s supposed to have no taste or if my taste buds are dead…. Anyone know?

Dragon fruit aka pitaya

The bus and training day

, , , ...

This morning, I woke up before 8! At 6.22am to be precise. I then dozed off and woke up again at 6.45am. Today, breakfast was like that of any other day; Porridge and honey :D Today's fruit was: Strawberry :D The only downside to strawberries are the tiny tiny seeds which have a habit of getting stuck inbetween teeth. Today's beverage was : Hot Water

At 8am, I walked up to the bus stop, shivering slightly because it was still a bit cold. I decided to stand in the sun to warm myself up. For once, I didn't miss the bus! Last year, I had a habit of missing the bus....:worried: There's a guy that catches the same bus as me. I call him 'That guy'. He's changed over the past year. Perhaps he's re-invented himelf, got promoted or trying to impress some girl at his work; he now has gelled hair, wears nice clothes, new expensive looking glasses and carries his lunch (he used to have a backpack)

I have a habit of watching people and wondering what they do, where they are going...etc etc. Here are just some of the characters on the bus this morning:

T-shirt Guy- He works in the T-shirt shop and has enough metal through his ears to set a metal detector off.
Goldie Locks- If you saw this school girl, you'd call her Goldie Locks too.
Plastic Woman- This woman wears soooo much make up! Her face looks so artificial like she's made of plastic.
Winnie the Pooh Guy- He's over 50, balding and carries a Winnie the Pooh shoulder bag.
Plain Jane- This girl goes to a private school (you can tell by the uniform) and probably doesn't have many friends. I feel sorry for her :frown:
Black makes you slim guy- This guy really loves the colour black, doesn't know how to use a bus ticket and smells like cigarettes.
The Plumber Well, he wasn't on the bus. He's a plumber (duh) and the bus stopped next to his van. While waiting for the green light, he likes to read magazines filled with pictures of girls in bikinis.

Anyway, why was I on the bus? I was going to a training session. From next week, I have a job as a student guide :D It involves helping international students in their first weeks at uni. Around 150 people applied for the job and 30 were chosen...and I was one of them :eyes:

We learnt about uni things and also cross cultural communication. You can improve your body language, just by remembering 'SOFTEN'. Smile, Open posture, Forward lean, Touch (in this job, you're not allowed to touch people), Eye contact and Nod.

Lunch wasn't included, but that's fair, seeing as though we were getting paid to learn. I made my way to Sushi King on Rundle Street and had a sundried tomato one and a pumpkin one Mmmm I really like sushi flirt Then I took my little paper bag of sushi to the river. After I had finished, I smelt like soy sauce.

Stay tuned- I received a parcel today...but the pics I took were too dark (my camera doesn't work well in artificial light) so I'll take some more tomorrow :D

Milestone and 'birdman'

, , , ...

My little blog reached 100,000 views yesterday :eyes: :D :hat: Thanks to all the people who read it

In other news, look who's member of the week!! Congratulations Conny!

I went driving for the first time as a P-plater today. Still remember how to drive which is good. Still can't park to save my life, which is bad :worried: My dad and I were walking along North Terrace when we saw this guy. I often see him there, feeding the birds and generally being peaceful (his shirt says 'Peace on Earth') All I know is, I wouldn't want a pigeon sitting on my head for obvious reasons...

Bored, new camera, stuff, february

, , , ...

It’s 4.22 and I’m still in my Pjs…Oh, I just heard my toast pop up. I’ll be back in a minute! I need to toast it twice. It’s not toast unless it's brown!

Mmm that tasted yummy; avocado, tomato, cucumber and carrot on rye  Avocado is great! However it's bad when you buy one that isn't ripe.

Adelaide has some strange Summer weather at the moment. It’s only around 20 degrees Celcius right now. It’s cloudy outside. There was eclipse today, not that I noticed.

This is from my window. Most of the garden is dead and the lawn (which you can't see) is a lovely yellow.

Guess what??? I got a new camera!! WOOT!! It’s black and big and fancy looking! I bet you’re jealous already P:

No, it's not any of these.... (Canon pic, Nikon pic)

THIS is my new camera, a Kodak Pocket Junior or something p: They were made in the 1920s...wow, they must have had BIG pockets back then!!! There's no way it'll fit into my pockets. I think it's broken. It looks like one of thse things you start a fire with

Schmienz once showed us her wristband collection (I can't find the post right now). Now I present mine. I only bought 3 of them: the blue one, the white one and the silver ones. People gave me the others, or I found them

I also have a bag collection. Out of all of these bags, I only purchased 2. The others, people have given me. My auntie gives me lots of cool stuff :D

I almost forgot it was February and not January. This meant I flipped over my calendar. Oh it was a fantastic occasion it was; full of happiness and surprise

It says 'Ich wuensche dir jede Menge Liebe, von den Zehenspitzen bis ueber beide Ohren' which means...'I wish you a lot of love, from your tip toes to your ears'...or something like that.

In my spare time...

, , , ...

...I pretend to be a ‘type of mythological being or legendary creature, a form of nature spirit, often described as metaphysical, supernatural or preternatural’ (Wikipedia) with my friend, Tracel.

When you get on the bus wearing a pink dress and caring a wand and fairy wings, everyone looks at you like you're freaky/strange/immature/crazy....the list goes on. No one looks at you and thinks 'There goes a distinction average uni student!'....

Grrr there's no wand!

We went to the markets and one of the guys at the stall started talking to us. He thought we were ‘angels’, so I had to correct him. Angels have halos and according to Wikipedia, are ‘messengers of God’. I stated our purpose as ‘brightening up people’s days by putting smiles on their faces’ :wizard: He thought we were weird

We discovered a car park on the corner of Playhouse Land and Solomon Street. The wall of the car park has been decorated with toy cars. There are two toy cars on each brick. Someone was obviously very bored.

I spent a total of 80 cents on lunch; an apple (30 cents) and a McDonalds icecream (50 cents) I was quite proud of myself. I’m still proud

We then walked through the botanical gardens. There’s a pond there with some flowers and ducks in it.

Shopping, lizard and the market

, , , ...

I didn't spot any canned potato salad on Thursday's shopping trip, but my sister found this stuff: Bonox; beef drink :yuck:

We saw this lizard on the road when we got home. It's now living in my neighbour's garden.

Yesterday, my sister and I had lunch with our auntie in China Town/the Adelaide Central Markets. We went to what was a new restaurant for me and had eggplant and vegetable hotpot (sooooo yummie!!), chinese vegetables with garlic, satay beef and rice and chinese tea :D I  the markets

Why you should have garlic with your Chinese vegetables. (Vogue Australia, p 176, October 2007)

The happiest orangejuice ever lives in Little Tokyo, in Victoria Square Arcade (near the Hilton and Central Market)

That's about it for now...I'm feeling sleepy :frown: I had a nap for 2 hours and woke up feeling sleepier than I did before!

Oh, for all of you interested in the custard, it's still in the fridge! p:
