2008-Post#1

, , , ...

Ok, guess I have to put the generic ‘Happy New Year’ up here. So: Happy New Year everyone!

Ok, so following the format of 2007-Post#1, I'll tell you about my NYE.

I’m not sure if this year’s celebrations were better than last year’s…

It was a toasty 40C. Great weather for catching public transport! I used three methods of transport (car, bus, tram) to get me to the beach for a party. There were only 5 people there for the first 1.75 hours… We sat on the porch, playing with water guns while waiting for everyone else to arrive. I didn’t take any food for the BBQ with me, but I was able to swap a bottle of wine, and 2 Smirnoffs for some  Just as I had to leave for work, the rest of the guests arrived :| The house was really great; the supermarket is across the road and the beach is a 5 minute walk away. The owners will be looking for new housemates soon as some of the current housemates are going back overseas. If you want a place in Adelaide for a while, let me know.

I was thinking it would have been really busy at work, but it was the opposite. One guy commented that I look too young to work in a bar. Apparently I look like his 15yr old sister…. Down the other end of the bar, a group of people were placing bets on how old I was. They were guessing 18 and 2 months; incorrect. My future is looking botox free! :D

Someone gave me a tip of $4.90! I was quite happy :D

There were so many more freaks out and about than there usually are at 5am. I didn't want to walk to the bus stop by myself as I usually do...then I see some boy (he must have been 11 or 12!) running around ALONE!

Lecker!

Hopefully by this time next year, I will either BE in Germany or about to go to Germany on exchange :D :hat: :drunk: flirt  If I am not...lets just say it wont be pretty.

Summer is here!

, , , ...

Last week, I was complaining it was too cold. I wont be complaining about the cold anymore:

One of the worst things is being on the bus when it's above 35C. You can't sit back against the seat because your back gets so hot and you can feel the sweat running down it. You try to open the window, but it's stuck. Then you move seats (the only free seats are on the sunny side of the bus) and open the window. The wind is hot, your hair blows in your eyes and gets stuck to your sweaty face... Some big sweaty guy (who doesn't know deoderant has been invented) sits beside or infront of you... :yuck:

Christmas in Australia, mate

, , , ...

One good thing about living in Australia is that there are NO Christmas songs on the radio :D (Hessen Hit Radio FFH is my least favourite radio station!!) There’s no love under the Christmas tree, no do they know it’s Christmas and no last Christmas. It’s good.

Lunch was at my grandma’s house where we ate potatoes, turkey, red cabbage, pierogi (Polish dumplings with meat inside them; you can put cheese or berries in them too) and other fattening foods. As usual, I got told off for not eating enough.

From the back: mushrooms, red cabbage, potatoes, pierogi, potato salad, turkey and pork

Dinner was at my auntie and uncle’s house. It was pretty warm, so we were able to sit outside…unlike a lot of you who had to sit inside P: It must be an Aussie tradition to take your pets everywhere you go. And, whenever you eat outside in Australia, there’s always someone’s dog under the table, trying to scab food from you.

Can't sit outside without a dog under the table!

A REAL Christmas tree. We have a plastic one at my house :D

For dinner we had: lots of salad, fish (3 for only $2.80!) with homemade chili-corriander sauce, turkey, chicken, lamb and ham. It was very summery; There wasn’t a baked potato or a bowl of Spätzle to be seen (I do like Spätzle though!)

Life of a fish-Marinate, BBQ, serve

While eating, I had a lovely view of the country side. My auntie sitting across from me had a lovely view of a wall P:

After we finished eating we had to wait around for the pudding which was still cooking. My dad noticed that the rainwater tank was not level, went to the car and got a bubble level meter (DON’T leave home without one!) and started measuring all the rainwater tanks to see if they were level or not :| If you invite my dad anywhere, be prepared for this.

It's NOT level!! (Neither were the cup handles

Soon it got darker and colder so we all moved inside. This meant moving everything from outside, inside the house. Not long after, the pudding was ready and we ate some Zimtsterne (kindly baked by me) and some biscuits baked by my cousin.

The yummie pudding and Zimtsterne

I then drove my parents home (haha that sounds funny) however my grandparents didn't want to carpool with us because they think I'm some crazy girl. Once home, we watched The Panel Christmas Wrap (a 5yr old Aussie tradition) which we taped. After 30 minutes I got too tired so I went to bed.

So yes, it was a nice day. However....

While we were all having a nice time, eating too much food (probably complaining about it too), opening useless gifts and throwing left overs (and possibly gifts) in the bin... millions of people went without a meal, children lost their parents to diseases, others froze on the streets....

Makes you feel good, doesn't it?

Fun for all the family

, , , ...

Today I practiced reverse parallel parking becasue I have a driving test tomorrow. I had a bit of an audience (after all, how can watching me park NOT be fun for the whole family?!): two boys wondering what on earth I was doing with 3 broomsticks, their mum (or grandma) and my auntie and uncle. I did a good job and even got a clap  I thought I was going to look like the stupid one....but no, my auntie and uncle achieved that by getting some chairs and sitting on the front lawn to watch.

My auntie and uncle were lucky enough to score these front row seats and dined as they watched :left:

Now for some random photos of stuff:

These were on the clothes line the other morning

Not sure what to get a friend for Christmas? How about some 'fat rolls'?

This year's big sandcastle in the mall. It took 6 days to build. You may remember last year's .

Miss Kimbers' Christmas Light Comp

, , ,

Ok, so I told some of you I'd put some Aussie Christmas pics up. Here they are below...

Some people enjoy decorating their houses with colourful lights which flash, Santas which sing and reindeers which almost always get stolen. I don't see the point of it all, but they think it's fun.

I want you to tell me which light displays you like the most. There are two categories: Good and Bad.

The Good:
Which house has the best light display? Put pictures A, B, C and D in order of best to least best.

The Bad:
Which one is the worst? Put pictures 1, 2 and 3 in order of worst to least worst.

One results have been collected (that is, if anyone actually plays this game) we'll know the best and worst Christmas light displays near my house. I'll then make a dodgy certificate for the winners (of best and worst):D P:

Have any of you decorated your houses? If so, take a pic and send/link it to me. If enough people send them, I'll have a competition for the OC members  Two categories: Good and Bad. The prize will be...err...a postcard from me, for you to cherish and show your grandchildren! :D

EDIT: Winners: Houses D and 1 and Tc

If you go out in the woods today

, , , ...

If you go out in the woods today,
You'd better not go alone.
It's lovely out in the woods today,
But safer to stay at home.

There's a stalker in the woods. It (yes I'm not sure if it's male of female) will follow you, hiding in the buses, slowly watching you. If you go out in the woods, make sure you take a bodyguard with you. I recommend my cousin! I was ready to go back. Eventhough you can hear me laughing in the background, I can assure you , I thought my headstone would read 'killed by an emu while looking for a Christmas tree'. At least it's better than 'Died peacefully in her sleep'. Australia IS a DANGEROUS place!!!! I cannot stress that enough!

Some pics from the walk/yesterday:

Awww  That's the same dog that was dressed in a skirt the other week.

New trend?

, , ,

I doubt this look from Australian Fashion Week will catch on. Do remember 'matching your lips to your nails is so last century; now it's all about matching your lips to your cheeks...' (Shop till you Drop, July 2007, p163) As far as I can see their cheeks are not orange.

Zimmerman models with 'creamy orange' lips.

I should go to bed. Driving lesson tomorrow morning. My teacher always asks me how I am and each week I reply with 'Tired'. Most people use 'How are you' as another form of 'Hi'. You're not expected to say how you actually are, you're just expected to say 'Hi' or 'Yeah, good' which also means 'hi'. If you do reply with how you are, for example 'Oh not too good. One of the monkeys I was tracking with a laser ate the laser and now I have to go to the Amazon to find the laser' the other person will think you're obsessed with youself, and if you do talk about monkeys and lasers, they'll also think you're weird. Got that? :eyes: Did you know 'tracking monkeys with lasers' is a job? One of the geeks from 'Beauty and the Geek' had that occupation. Don't worry, I only watched it for 2 minutes.

Are there even monkeys in the Amazon?

And now for a word from Bazza. Yes children, do what the scary green 'mythical' Australian monster says! I think Muzzy, the green monster who taught me French is cooler
