Week 10 in photos

After 4 hours,I think I've finished my law assignment *jump* :D So now I can blog  I'm doing a subject where we look at aspects of law affecting companies, under the wonderful Corporations Act 2001. For the exam, I have to print out the required sections of the act. One guy from my tutorial printed it out and it cost him $10 in print money!!

On Saturday night I commented on one girl's head band 'Hey, that's a nice headband!' and then she gave it to me

I'm still walking up the hill (you can see it in the distance here). I like the gates they have at this 'park': one for the human and a litle one for the dog

Some of the orchids are still flowering too. They get hardly any water here, the soil doesn't have any nutrients but they seem to grow somehow. If you tried to grow them in your garden at home, you'd fail miserably.

This is what the Adelaide traffic control centre looks like. Lots of screens

Fritz, the crazy German guy who you've never heard of before is ALREADY exporting Christmas Stollen to Australia! Actually, the Adelaide City council seems a bit crazy too; they've already put up Christmas decorations in the city centre (American/Canadian translation: downtown)!

Last night I cooked a recipe from 'Jamies Ministry of Food'; chicken with prosciutto. It tasted really good, except for the fact that the ham was really salty! Next time: unsalty ham.

And that concludes today's blog post. Now I've got to finish my accounting theory assignment.....

Ahh I nearly forgot! It's time for a German lesson :D
  • Ich esse gern Stollen=I like to eat stollen
  • ...wenn es Ihnen gerade passt=When it suits you. So you can say....'Sie koennen essen wenn es Ihnen gerade passt'??? (German people, please correct me if I am wrong  ) And the impolite is 'Du kannst essen wenn es DIR gerade passt.????
  • Schutzengel= guardian angel So, 'Fahre nie schneller als dein Schutzengel fliegen kann'...which means 'Never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly'

Fancy lettuce

Fancy lettuce. What's wrong with bogany iceberg?!

2 months to go :D

Today's German lesson:

Kaffeeklatsch: Informal gathering to talk and drink coffee.
der Suffkopf: Drunken person acting like an idiot.
These words were taken from Spread Germanisms

Since, I'll be going to a German airport, lets learn how to say something airporty...
Airport terminal: das Flughafenabfertigungsgebäude :eyes: Or you can say das Flughafengebäude

Nearly finished 3 assignments. Just need to do more of my law (I do not like law!!!!) assignment and I'll be very happy

Fire-for when you don't have cable broadband

, , , ...

I am lucky enough to have cable broadband at home  If you live in some parts of Australia you can't get cable broadband. You can get broadband but it's not very fast.

What do you do during the evening/night when you live in the country with slow internet? Scrabble? Nope, cases fights. Monopoly? Nope, causes divorces and domestic violence. FIRE? Yes! In the country, people have bonfires. You light lots of dead trees on fire and everyone stands around the fire and watches it. I didn't get to go to one last night but my dad did.

Some guy goes back home, not because he forgot his glasses/camera, but because he forgot his tractor...and then uses it to push the wood around.

People standing around a fire

Exemption clause: If you, after reading this post, decide to have your own bonfire, you do so at your own risk

I have to work 11 hours tonight :left:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does anyone know what day it is in Australia today? It's... BOGAN DAY!

Why? Today is AFL (Australian Football League) Grand Final Day. AFL is a 'bogan' sport where 2 teams of weird looking guys in shorts that are too short run around an oval and chase and kick a weird shaped ball. Today bogans across Australia will be having BBQs, watching the game on their plasma TVs (which they bought with pension money from the government) and drinking beer (which they paid for using their baby bonus money (when you have a baby, the government gives you money so you can buy clothes for it etc. However, some really smart bogans just have children so they can get the money))

Fish with a chorizo crust, smart sheep

, , , ...

Tonight I made fish. I do like fish. It tastes good and it's cheap!

Around this part of the world a steak from the supermarket costs $6 or $7. Four slices of whiting fish costs less than $2! Australia: An island surrounded by sea (that's where fish LIVE) and where does the supermarket fish come from? CHINA! :irked:

This recipe is taken from Dave and Si, the Hairy Bikers. They are sooo cool! They are definately the funniest 'TV chefs' I have ever seen.

What you need:
  • Juice of 1/2 lime
  • Zest of 1 lime
  • Some white fish fillets (I used four)
  • About 4 slices of bread, chopped into pieces
  • 1 chorizo sausage, skinned and chopped
  • Some black pepper
  • 2 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • Some parsley
  • A bit of butter

What to do:
  • Preheat your oven to 180 degrees C
  • Place fish into a container/bowl, pour over lime juice, let it stand for 30 minutes
  • While you wait, make the chorizo mix: Place the bread and chorizo into a roasting tin (I used a cake tin) and put it into the oven for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, take it out and let it cool a bit.
  • Blend the bread/chorizo mix (or you can just use your hands like I did), add in the parsley, garlic, pepper and lime zest...blend more (or just mix it).
  • Place the fish, skin side down into a tin/roasting tin. I used a slice tin.
  • Put the bread/chorizo mix onto the fish, pressing it down. Make it thick.
  • Place a little bit of butter onto the fish
  • Place foil over the tin and bake for 20 minutes.

These are great kitchen utensils :)

Other stuff:
I'll pay for my trip next week :worried: I'm scared. I've never spent so much money before! I've never had money TO SPEND before!

This is what my sister's 'friend' calls 'tea/dinner' :left:

Sweet intersheep is so clever. I'm a very proud shepherd! Maybe he/she can help me with my assignment

Today, my friends asked me what I'd like to do once I finish uni: 'Umm..I don't know...I'd like to be a gypsy ...not one of those crazy ones though! I'd have a wagon and a monkey, without rabies, and we'd sing and dance' :eyes: Perhaps I was a gypsy in a previous life and I had a pet monkey without rabies! :D Maybe I was THE MONKEY without rabies! Can monkeys even get rabies? Does anyone here have a pet monkey?

Choc-orange cake

, , , ...

Choc Orange Cake

I like oranges. I like cake. I like chocolate.

I made this cake last night. It's VERY simple

You will need:
100g butter (or spread- I used spread)
2/3 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 tablespoons of cocoa dissolved in 2 tablespoons of boiling water
zest of 1 orange
2/3 cup self-raising flour, sifted
2 tablsepoons of orangejuice (from the orange above)

What you need to do
  • Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius
  • Grease a cake tin (around 20cm in diameter) and line the base with baking paper
  • Cream the butter and sugar.
  • Add the eggs and mix.
  • Mix in the cocoa and orange zest.
  • Mix in the flour and the orangejuice
  • Place the mixture into the cake tin and bake it for 45 minutes
  • Cool the cake in the tin.

You can make an orange icing for the cake if you want to. All you need is some icing sugar and orangejuice, heat it on the stove until it is at your desired thickness.

(The basic idea for this recipe was taken from 'Cake Bible' 2006, Penguin Books)

Yummmmmm. Fruit! With porridge and sultana, it's even better  That spoon is my favourite spoon. Eating breakfast using another spoon just isn't the same :frown:

Our cat has a new friend; the frypan. We got a new frypan(1) so the old one has been sitting on the floor for the last week :worried: At least the cat still likes the old frypan. What a nice cat!

(1) Woah, what's happening? It all started with a NEW KETTLE! Then a new toothbrush....then new slippers...then a new table and now a new frypan! :eyes: Don't forget the 'new'/second hand suitcase on wheels either! p:

I have great news to tell you, but that will have to wait until next time

Biscuit,wine, boots, class discussion

, , , ...

These 'Scotch Finger' biscuits taste so good when you dip them into someone's tea or coffee, or even hot water

Note to self: Make more hot water

Support poor wine makers.

My auntie got these snow boots from a second hand shop for $2. She wears them around the house :D

I study a subject where we look at business issues from a global perspective. On Tuesday we were talking about religion and how it can influence business.

Tutor: Does anyone else know another religion?
Guy next to me: Jew...or err what do you call that religion?
Me: *ugh as if you don't know!*
Tutor: Judaism
Guy next to me: Yeah...well, I don't know anything about it. I just know it's a religion
Tutor: *asks someone else* Do you know anything about Judaism?
Other guy: Umm..well..I know that the woman keeps the family together...ummm...errr
Me: *eh?*
Tutor: Hmm yes ok...does anyone else know anything about Judaism?
Me: *talks about Judaism and business in Israel*
Tutor: Yes. Very good!!

After the class the tutor asked me if I was Jewish and how I seemed to know a lot about Judaism even though my last name isn't Jewish (well, it actually is!). There are so many people my age that seem to live under a rock and know NOTHING about other cultures or beliefs! (These same people think fried rice is exotic and are very cautious when they eat it. I'm sure they also think Austria is a region of Australia)

Yee Ha...Ho Down...Social!

, , , ...

On Friday night there was a party thing at the apartment of the Americans. However, their apartment was filled with GERMANS! Their apartment is soooo cool! You can see for so far (they live on the top floor) and if you need to be sick, you can surprise the people down below waiting at the bus stop  I like apartments. I never want to own a lawnmower!

Dodgy photos from the balcony

A German guy I was helping at uni was there too and even remembered me. The best part of my job is when people see me and say 'Hey, I know you... You're that girl who helped me!'

We played a drinking game called...well I don't know what it was called, but it was with cards. Each card had a meaning and..hmm it's hard to explain. blah blah blah and if you put a card under the tab of the beer can and the can opened, you had to scull ( or ex ex ex ex) the can of beer. Luckily I didn't have to; I would have been sick!

The game that I don't know the name of

Next we played a game called 'Bunny'. It's SOOOO funny! This website explains it and there are photos too!! :D

Then Mr M and Mr C from downstairs arrived and we played a 'Canadian' (?) game named 'Yee-Ha'. Mr M didn't explain the rules to us so it was a bit confusing at first. It's really funny watching 'smart' foreign students yell at 'Yeee Haaaaa' like a cowboy

Then we ate cake, which I baked for Miss M, as it was her birthday :hat:

Even though it was a packet cake, everyone liked it. Just look at their smiles! P:

Then we went to the pub where we met up with all the other exchange students.

Mr M went to the bathroom and we had to watch his beer. This is a photo of us watching the beer. I'm the green beer-watcher and the other beer watchers are from Bulgaria and Germany

Now it's time to find some food I guess...
