Snake, happy and two songs

, , , ...

After deciding I had done absolutely no exercise in who-knows-how-long, I told myself that I had to do some exercise or I'd end up looking like a lump of lard. Each day for the past four days, I've been walking up a hill. It makes me tired and my legs get sore, but it's good exercise

Saturday’s walk was particularly exciting. I learnt that you should never walk on little tracks by yourself. Why? You might get bitten by a snake! My dad stopped to tie up his shoe on a rock...and there was an Eastern Brown Snake (second most deadly snake in the world :eyes:) behind the rock.

My dad had his camera with him but the shot he took isn’t the best.. I guess when a deadly snake is in front of you, you don’t really have time to work out the ‘rule of 3rds’, calculate where any shadows will be, set up a tripod etc etc.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I finished work at 1am this morning. I started at 6pm and it wasn't very busy so they let me go home. I would have stayed there for extra money though! I got home and my dad and I were talking in the kitchen:

*Kimbers is happy and laughing*
The dad of Kimbers: Were you drinking at work?
Kimbers: No.
The dad of Kimbers: Oh...you just seem really happy!

Royal Adelaide Show 2008 and Canon competition

, , , ...

The Royal Adelaide Show is a big fair. It goes for about a week every September and thousands of people go to it. There are rides, games, cake decorating, art competitions, cooking competitions, animal competitions (chickens, sheep, cows, dogs) etc. You have to pay to get in, pay for food, pay for the rides, pay for showbags etc. Some idiots spend $500 for just one day at the show!! :eyes:

What is a showbag? Showbags are promotional material by large companies. For example, $10 will buy you a Cadbury Chocolate showbag, which will contain a range of Cadbury chocolates. They were once free, but the companies worked out that people would actually pay for them.

Carcase competition: This competition involves high school children looking after a cow (one of those big ones for meat...I don't know what you call them) for however long it takes a cow to grow up. The judges judge all the cows when they are alive. The next day, all the cows go on a drive up the freeway to the slaughter house, are killed and then they are judged hanging on a hook :frown: All the children cry and miss their cow! After the cows have been judged, they are sold to the market and bought by you and me.

Cake decorating

:yuck: Bogans and cars....I don't understand how people can be interested in these cars. If you're going to be interested in cars, why not be interested in foreign, expensive cars?

This is the 'Grand Parade' where all the animals walk around the oval. Why? I don't know...so my dad can take photos of them?

A guy with a cool hat on the side of a horse

A horse jumping over a fence

These guys chop wood...why? I don't know...Because it's fun to chop stuff? I enjoy chopping/cutting up big pieces of paper into tiny pieces of paper.

One of thse things that I've never been on.

I got a box from Canon today. It's for a photo competition. In the box there are some objects and you have to take photos of them. There are 10 winners, which receive up to $5000 worth of Canon EOS products. I won't win.

There are two categories: Professional and ameteur, which is unfair! Professional= You earn more than $20,000 from photography/year. So, someone with a very cool camera who earns $18,000/year from photography is in the same category as me; the poor uni student with a dodgy point and shoot.

My model will be INTERSHEEP!!!!! He/she has long legs...

The objects are:
  • A red ribbon
  • Tea lights (those littlecandles)
  • A pink crayon
  • A blue cocktail umbrella
  • Bubble mix (I'm assuming they don't want photos of the container, but of the bubbles)

Now I'm on my way to bed. I'm lucky enough to visit the doctor tomorrow! The best part is waiting in the waiting room and watching people. It amuses me. So does watching people on the bus. There's a guy who looks like Dave Grohl in the video for 'Learn to Fly' and a girl who looks like she's from the Famous Five. Yep, I'm a simple person living in an over complicated world full of share options, insurance, exothermic plastics and syringe disposal units.

Goodnight

DIY, credit card debt and staring competitions

, , , ...

How was your weekend? Did you get bored at all? Find watching TV a bit too dull? Well, here's a DIY (do it yourself) activity for next weekend;

The world's first Environmentally friedly, time saving garbage disposal unit.

In Winter you probably don't like taking out your compost to the back of your garden. This clever unit allows you to recycle right from your kitchen window.

Materials:
A box
A tube
A guinea pig!

Method:
1. Simply place the box outside your kitchen window.
2. Next, put a tube from ths box, up to your kitchen window. This means you can put your compost into the tube by just opening your window. You don't even need to put your shoes on
3. (This is the most important part of the unit) You will need to find a guinea pig to put into the box! The guinea pig will eat the compost :D You can buy special 'cardboard-eating' guinea pigs (this is the model we have) too P:

Here's one I prepared earlier

Our gate broke a few weeks ago and my dad couldn't be bothered going to the shop to get a new thingy (I don't know what they're called) from the shop. Instead, he used cable ties and a bolt to fix it.

This bill is the reason why I have to drink hot water (to save tea bags), do homework in the dark (to save electricity), eat porridge with water (so we don't have to buy milk) P:

Ever wondered what the most popular vinly record in Australia might be? No? Neither have I. But I might have the answer... Last week we went to a restaurant with 2 other families. Each of the couples had a copy of 'Explosive Hits 1974' and knew every song on the record too :eyes:

My uni work made sense today :yikes: :D

Well travelled sheep

, , , ...

I got mail on Monday. It wasn't from the bank, uni, an insurance company or even a random on the OC wanting to marry me (so they can take full advantage of my $120.48 superannuation money).

It was a parcel from my favourite German, Mr S :D The good people at the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service knew what was in the parcel before I did.

"We know all your secrets...."

So then I opened the parcel and it made a noise :left: WHAAA?! A sheep and a magical nemo towel! The noise was the bell (a long story) on the sheep. It's a get-well present for when I was sick the other week Awww  Well, on Sunday, I got sick AGAIN*, so it was good timing.

The sheep was looking quite happy, especially after such a long journey.

Welcome to Australia! We shared some Vegemite on toast. I think he/she/it liked it as he/she/it kept smiling

After putting the magical towel in water, it turned THIS BIG! That's so coooolllll!!!

It's been raining in Adelaide this week. The lawns are GREEN again :eyes: It's cold too, so I've started sleeping in my sleeping bag again. It's only rated to 10 degrees :frown: This meant I was shivering most of the night, sniffling and wishing I had a hard-core -10 degrees sleeping bag!

Hmm..umbrella is not quite big enough. At least he/she/it wont get a wet left ear.

Totally unrelated to sheep, feeling sick and umbrellas:

Perhaps it's this one from March 21, but grown up?

*Why do I keep getting sick?!
Is it: I was at the beach, freezing cold at 1am on Friday? The dishwasher at work doesn't kill germs off the glasses? The germs from that guy who spat into my eye decided to attack? I hardly eat meat or dairy and I'm weak? Other?

Why my friends and I should be art students

, , , ...

Well, it's now the end of week 3!! Only 3 weeks until mid-semester break :D There are already lots of assignments to do  For 2 of my subjects (management accounting and financial accounting) we need to do the assignments in groups. In both of my groups, I'm the only Aussie. Why is this good? International students pay $16,000 or even more to study in Australia each year. They're NOT going to fail! With their brains and my errr ummm errr ....whatever, we'll be fine! P:

In Australia, you find more than spiders in your room. My sister found a little lizard in hers. She got scared although it was sooo TINY!

Food is getting more and more expensive here as it never rains and because petrol prices are increasing. I put on 2kg (I have no idea HOW! Maybe aliens abducted me and injected me with lard?), so maybe it's a good thing that food is expensive....

$8.72 for 4 chops...you're just paying for bone and fat. I bought a dress and it was only $7.50

Sitting through a 1.5 hour accounting lecture yesterday afternoon, my friends and I found ourselves getting bored....I'm always 1 week ahead (such a good student) so I was even more bored. I think we should be art students P:

Lauren wanted to drink $1 vodka (she even drew the straw!) and hang herself

Kim wanted to go to sleep

Did you know, if the contribution margin (sales revenue-variable costs) is negative, you can't make a profit?

That looks so like me

In Australia, chickens go 'cluck cluck'. What noise do they make where you live?

Awww a sweet little bunny!

How do I know the points on my scatter graph aren't ants?

Here's a video for 'Since I left you' from the Avalanches. According to Mark Pytlik (cited on Wikipedia) the tune was 'assembled from approximately 3,500 vinyl samples' I want to dance but I don't know how :frown: I went to an introductory salsa lesson a few weeks ago because it was free. It was lots of fun and I could actually do it which was amazing! However, to get past 'Lesson 1' you have to pay so I haven't been back *carefully guards her precious money* Ooo watch this: Ballet VS Hiphop

Now I should go and (a)Do some homework or (b)climb a hill.

Valentines, lizard, teddies, the fridge and dragon fruit

, , , ...

Each Valentine’s Day you’re able to put a message in the newspaper. These messages can be for the person you love and who loves you back, the person you love who doesn’t love you back or even our wonderful politicians...

The Advertiser, p 55, 14 February 2008

Another lizard has made it’s home in our garden. My cat just stares at it, not knowing what to do. This is the same cat which is scared of mice and birds :left:

It's a lizard, eventhough it looks like a snake

These children’s toys are characters from ‘Play School’ a popular children’s series. Big Ted is smaller than little Ted...

No wonder children are so confused these days...p:

My mum likes buying stuff, especially food. She likes buying loads of stuff, bringing it home and storing it at the back of the fridge. Strawberries are usually never seen again, until they’re black and furry... Anyone remember the custard with the ‘Use by October’ stamp? It’s still in the fridge!!

One way to waste money

Purple circle- Fruit that has been in that container for AGES. If you want to go to hospital, eat it.
Red circle- Nalesniki, Polish pancakes. No one is ever going to eat these as they are only visible if you kneel down.
Blue Circle- Pre packages fancy lettuce. My prediction is, it will sit in the ‘crisper’ and get soft and furry.
Yellow Circle- The vegetable crisper. Once something goes in here, there’s an 85.87% chance of it never being consumed by a human as it will pose a health threat.
Red Crosses- Foods I wont eat; custard (that’s new custard that you can see in the pic), youghurt, cheese, sausages, creamed rice, jam, cheese, milk, Nalesniki, vegetable soup.

Dear Jennifer Hawkins,

Thank you for giving me an eating disorder.

Love Kim.

My mum also loves buying stuff that no one likes; weird cold meats for example. The other day, she bought a ‘Dragon Fruit’ or ‘pitaya’. We all tried some yesterday. I don’t know if it’s supposed to have no taste or if my taste buds are dead…. Anyone know?

Dragon fruit aka pitaya

Milestone and 'birdman'

, , , ...

My little blog reached 100,000 views yesterday :eyes: :D :hat: Thanks to all the people who read it

In other news, look who's member of the week!! Congratulations Conny!

I went driving for the first time as a P-plater today. Still remember how to drive which is good. Still can't park to save my life, which is bad :worried: My dad and I were walking along North Terrace when we saw this guy. I often see him there, feeding the birds and generally being peaceful (his shirt says 'Peace on Earth') All I know is, I wouldn't want a pigeon sitting on my head for obvious reasons...
