Why bother?

, , , ...

I was raised listening to 'old people's radio' ie, music from the 60s and 70s. What amazes me is that this music has lasted and still sounds good. I doubt anyone will be listening to Emiliana Torrini's 'Jungle Drum' (currently #1 in Germany) in 40+ years.

Listening to the radio at work on Friday, I recognised a song on the radio....I quickly realised it was a really bad cover of a good song.

Good: The Kinks, Waterloo Sunset

Bad: Def Leppard (whoever they are!), and their why-did-they-bother version of Waterloo Sunset At 1:00 minutes it gets really bad!

Hmmm I was just looking at the other songs in the German charts....
Das geht ab by Frauenarzt and Manny Marc is number 9. I had never heard the song up until 1 minute ago...and I didn't need to hear it. Why would you call your 'band/group/whatever' Frauenarzt? Or, in English, gynecologist :| The song is about these losers going to parties and partying the whole night long....I find it hard to believe they get invited to parties, going by how they dress. I would be embarassed to be seen with someone who dresses so badly.

Before Sunset

, , , ...

I watched 'Before Sunset', one of my favourite films this week. Not once, but twice  And in German too! And I understood 90% of it  It's a continuation of 'Before Sunrise' which is set 9 years earlier (and also made 9 years earlier) They star Julie Delpy (did you know she played Leni in Europa Europa? I didn't) and Ethan Hawke

I don't think I need to explain what happens in the films because you're all clever enough to google them yourselves or even click on the links above  Or you can watch the trailer which explains it:

Both of these films are really nice to watch. They're set in real time around Vienna and Paris. There are no costume changes, no fancy effects...just the two characters interacting and talking about their lives. And that's all you need in these two films.

If you dont' appreciate films (ie you really really love Eddie Murphy movies (they should ban then for under 18s! No wonder today's youth are so off the tracks)) you probably wont like these movies as a lot of thought went into making them... If you are a bogan, you probably wont like these movies either.

For those interested, the song in the trailer is 'Edge of the Ocean' (not the original video) by Ivy
New words: Narbe= scar, muffig=musty

:frown: I just killed an ant by mistake....

DIY, credit card debt and staring competitions

, , , ...

How was your weekend? Did you get bored at all? Find watching TV a bit too dull? Well, here's a DIY (do it yourself) activity for next weekend;

The world's first Environmentally friedly, time saving garbage disposal unit.

In Winter you probably don't like taking out your compost to the back of your garden. This clever unit allows you to recycle right from your kitchen window.

Materials:
A box
A tube
A guinea pig!

Method:
1. Simply place the box outside your kitchen window.
2. Next, put a tube from ths box, up to your kitchen window. This means you can put your compost into the tube by just opening your window. You don't even need to put your shoes on
3. (This is the most important part of the unit) You will need to find a guinea pig to put into the box! The guinea pig will eat the compost :D You can buy special 'cardboard-eating' guinea pigs (this is the model we have) too P:

Here's one I prepared earlier

Our gate broke a few weeks ago and my dad couldn't be bothered going to the shop to get a new thingy (I don't know what they're called) from the shop. Instead, he used cable ties and a bolt to fix it.

This bill is the reason why I have to drink hot water (to save tea bags), do homework in the dark (to save electricity), eat porridge with water (so we don't have to buy milk) P:

Ever wondered what the most popular vinly record in Australia might be? No? Neither have I. But I might have the answer... Last week we went to a restaurant with 2 other families. Each of the couples had a copy of 'Explosive Hits 1974' and knew every song on the record too :eyes:

My uni work made sense today :yikes: :D

Biggest guitar band in the world

, , ,

My sister told me about Adelaide trying to set the Guiness Book of World Records' record for most guitars playing the same thing at once (Smoke on the Water), on November 23. India currently holds the record, with 1730 people. It's all part of the Adelaide International Guitar Festival, the biggest music festival in the Southern Hemisphere (we always hold records for the biggest things in the Southern Hemisphere, but never the world...)

I started learning Smoke on the Water today, using TABS. I can do the da da daaa da da dadaaaa da da da dada part, but did you know there's a bit after that?!

This is a music map. Type in the artist you will see what people who like that artist, also like.

We Get Around - Urthboy

, ,

I heard this song on Tiple J this morning. It's We Get Around by an Aussie group, Urthboy.

Music that you don't hear on commercial radio is fantastic! :D Videos which don't feature anorexic girls dancing around are fantastic too! *shakes fist at mainstream* p:

Trees, Manufactured Pop and Sleeping Bags

, , , ...

Everyone here has suddently become concerned with the environment (it's not just me anymore!) The paper here even gave out a whole 2 FREE tree seeds for people to plant, 'Plant a Tree for South Australia' or something like that...The trees aparantly grow up to 16 metres tall! I don't know anyone who wants a tree THAT big in their backyard. Here are my Australian pine trees at time=week 0.

Adelaide University had a book sale yesterday. All the dusty, mostly brown paged books were only $2. I got 4 German books, then I went back in the afternoon and everything was only $1! I got ripped off! According to one of the books, an elephant goes 'prrr' I thought that's what cats did.... And 'Etwas zum Lachen' has not yet made me laugh; is that false advertising?

I saw Tracel today and we went driving in her car. We drove all the way to Mt Lofty, the highest point in Adelaide (it's not very high). It was sooooo windy and cold there Brrrr! Quality dodgy photo!

Oh yeah, we listened to quality manufactured pop on the way there...so everyone else could hear

However, I think it's now time for me to go to bed...in my cold little sleeping bag...under blankets and a quilt :frown: I must have a serious medical condition; my sister was wearing a T-shirt today and I was wearing a jumper and STILL complaining I was cold! Perhaps it's time to invest in a lets-go-hard-core-camping-in-the-snow sleeping bag and a i'm-planning-to-climb-mt-Everest-one-day-in-the-future jacket/jumper. But, before I know it, I'll be complaining that's it's soooo hot that I have to cool myself down by wearing a watermelon as a hat, so perhaps I can just tough it out for a little while longer

Goodnight bye
