Hamburg, Cake, Photos, Weather
...
Hamburg is a great city for cycling! The city is mostly flat, so hills are no problem. There are also red bike lanes on most footpaths and/or bike lanes on the road.
Why bike riding is better than the train:
1. It is cheaper
2. Exercise
3. Sunshine
4. You get to see things that you don't see when on the train
Why train is better than bike riding:
1. It rains a lot in Hamburg
2. It could be safer
3. You normally have more of an idea of where you are going

It's getting warmer here!!!
German girls are pretty tough. Yesterday, I saw quite a few wearing dresses/skirts WITHOUT stockings! The outdoor part of the icecream cafe was full today. The icecream cafes are sooo cool! In Australia, we have icecream shops. There you can buy an icecream cone and a drink. However, in Germany, you can actually sit down on a chair and eat a bog bowl of icecream, a sunday, some pancakes, drink a hot drink, a milkshake or some alcohol. However, a sunday can cost 7 or 8 Euros...
Anyway, I went to the shops to find myself a skirt because I am sick of wearing trousers. It is sooo hard to find my size here!
I like this skirt, but I don't think my shoes and stockings look good with it....My finance lecturer always says 'subStract' instead of 'subtract' and it annoys me.
Everyone also says 'salvation' instead of 'salvage' (as in salvage value of an asset)...can salvation be used in this context?
Yesterday there was an International Dinner at uni. You had to cook/make something from your country for people to try. I made fairy bread

There was sushi, crepes, Pierogi!!!
Pierogi are pretty easy to make!
On Monday I went to the bar around the corner with Miss D. The bar is really cool, as there are games there for everyone to play. We played Backgammon

Deni has been playing Backgammon for 15 years and is really really good, so I learnt some tricks;)
Onions, they're more interesting than you think!

One reason why I like Germany: the weather is nice and 'cool', which is not the case in Adelaide:
Adelaide is even featured in a
Spiegel video!.

Happy Monday to you all

I'm glad I don't have uni today, because it was raining and hailing. It wouldn't have been fun walking from the bus stop to uni. Rain is so special and rare here that when it does rain, old people ring the radio stations just to say "It's raining at my house" or "It's raining and there's a puddle on the road...Now some children will jump in it. Where are their parents?! Back in my day we never jumped in puddles. Kids these days...I don't know..."
Last week however, it was really warm and felt like Summer. I DIDN'T wear a jumper on Friday!! Instead, I wore a pink dress with wings
One of the exchange students had an idea for some photos, but he needed a fairy. So, I was the fairy
Some guy: Hi..I want something exotic to drink
Me: Well, what do you want?
Some guy: Just something exotic....
Me: Ok, orangejuice it it. That's REALLY exotic!
*20 minutes later Kimbers is making a green drink*
Some guy: Ooo what's that?
Me: Green stuff. It's exotic; palm trees are green.
This is my favourite pen
When it disappeared last week I was sad, when I found it, I was happy!Today in the paper:
Adelaide Men told to make haste slowly
SOUTH Australian men are already in front of the pack when it comes to attracting British women.
So says British backpackers Hannah Taylor and Katy Buckingham, who have found Adelaide men are more attractive, particularly because they don't fight as much as Brisbane men.
(The Advertiser 2008 'Adelaide Men told to make haste slowly', Monday September 15)
There is definately something wrong with these British backpackers! There is a photo of these two girls in the paper and they're not ugly. They should definately not waste their time talking to men from Adelaide. If I ever get married to a guy from Adelaide, or in general, Australia, please feel free to stalk me over the internet and beat some sene into me!
1 in 3 snub vaccine
Health Department figures show about 50,000 girls in Years 8 to 12 were offered the Gardasil vaccine last year but about 16,000 - or 32 per cent - opted out.
(The Advertiser 2008 '1 in 3 snub vaccine', Monday September 15, p.3)
I was offered this vaccine by my doctor last week. I said "I'll think about it" which means NO. At uni we learn about the 'private interest theory' which means people act to benefit themselves. The doctor doesn't care about me more than her own pocket. If you believe your doctor DOES care about you, think again. My parents don't care that I don't get vaccines

It means they'd have to pay the doctors fee- see, acting in a private interest.
Year 8 student Ami had her third injection on Thursday and said she felt "heaps safer knowing that I have less of a chance of getting it (cervical cancer)"
(The Advertiser 2008 '1 in 3 snub vaccine', Monday September 15, p.3)
Learn to speak English Ami! Look what that vaccine did to you! It damaged your brain!

I got mail on Monday. It wasn't from the bank, uni, an insurance company or even a random on the OC wanting to marry me (so they can take full advantage of my $120.48 superannuation money).
It was a parcel from my favourite German, Mr S

The good people at the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service knew what was in the parcel before I did.
"We know all your secrets...."So then I opened the parcel and it made a noise

WHAAA?! A sheep and a
magical nemo towel!

The noise was the bell (a long story) on the sheep. It's a get-well present for when I was sick the other week Awww

Well, on Sunday, I got sick AGAIN*, so it was good timing.
The sheep was looking quite happy, especially after such a long journey.
Welcome to Australia! We shared some Vegemite on toast. I think he/she/it liked it as he/she/it kept smiling
After putting the magical towel in water, it turned THIS BIG! That's so coooolllll!!!It's been raining in Adelaide this week. The lawns are
GREEN again

It's cold too, so I've started sleeping in my sleeping bag again. It's only rated to 10 degrees

This meant I was shivering most of the night, sniffling and wishing I had a hard-core -10 degrees sleeping bag!
Hmm..umbrella is not quite big enough. At least he/she/it wont get a wet left ear. Totally unrelated to sheep, feeling sick and umbrellas:
Perhaps it's this one from March 21, but grown up? *Why do I keep getting sick?!
Is it: I was at the beach, freezing cold at 1am on Friday? The dishwasher at work doesn't kill germs off the glasses? The germs from that guy who spat into my eye decided to attack? I hardly eat meat or dairy and I'm weak? Other?
