Switzerland: land of chocolate factories and banks

, , , ...

I told someone I was going to Switzerland and he asked me 'Why? To see a bank?!'. Funnily enough, I didn't see many banks. I also asked at the tourist information office if there were tours of chocolate factories. Nope. The closest chocolate factory was 3 hours away, in Italy :|

Anyway, last weekend I was in Zuerich, Switzerland. I don't think I'll go back there anytime soon. It was unfortunately a very expensive weekend, eventhough I didn't pay anything for accommodation! An ICE train ticket to Switzerland and back will set you back around 75 Euro, if you have BahnCard 50. If you ever stay in Germany for a decent amount of time, buy a BahnCard 50. It allows you to purchase train tickets for half the normal price.

Miss E and I were in Zuerich during POT PLANT FESTIVAL!!!!

Sign in a tram, telling you not to make loud noises, damage seats and to not place your feet on the seats.

When I arrived back to my empty apartment (the removal guys had taken everything, including my mobile phone charger *annoyed*), I found someone on my bed!!!!

Kiel and Hamburg

, , , ...

Have you ever had someone who is holding a clip board, try to talk to you on the street? Most of the time, people ignore these clip board holders. Well, today I didn't. I did a market survey about a coffee advertisement today. I had to watch some advertisements and then answer questions about them. For my hard work and effort, I received a bag of lollies worth 0.99Euro! Woooooo (I think this is my new favourite word to include in emails)

Wochenende 19 Februar

, , , ...

I travelled to Duesseldorf, once again on last Thursday. My timetable gives me Thursday and Friday free

Thursday morning I baked some 'Amaretti' biscuits for my favourite German. It's nice to bake things for people

They are quite simple to make and do not require many ingredients, as you can see here: eggs, sugar, crushed almonds, almond essence or Amaretto, vanilla sugar. The hot water was there to keep me hydrated. My flat is extrememly warm! I'm pretty sure the biscuits would have tastes even better if I wore a 1950s dress. For some reason, they remind me of baking....or being 'housewifey' which I am NOT! :D I have trouble opening doors...and cleaning glasses...and many other things. However, this dress is nicer.

On Friday, the plan was to go to Ikea, which we did, with a couchsurfer. We ate hot dogs and I ate icecream  Mmmm icecream!! In a CONE, take that, McDonalds P: Above the tables at Ikea, there are storage tube things...so we put our rubbish in them hehehe mwahahahahaha!

In their spare time, German 20-somethings go to Ikea after sundown...to ride on the swings

Dogs need water and you can get FREE dog water at IKEA!

We also watched the movie 'Das Leben ist Schoen' which I guess is called 'Life is Beautiful' in English. On Thursday we watched 'Bandits' which is a German movie about some women in a jail. I really liked it

Saturday we baked a cake, called 'Bananen Brot aus Jamacia'. I have to say, this cake is fantastically good, and even more fantasticlaly good when hot! We used BLACK bananas. We also used a MIXER to mix the mixture and a STABBER THING to mash the bananas.

This photo does NOT do the cake justice

Saturday we went to 'Apartment' which is on this blog somewhere. I drank 'Oringina'...I had never heard of it before but we do have it in Australia. It tastes like Fanta but better and not so sweet. It is possible to get free stuff in Germany:

Waitress: Are any of you going to order another coffee...? Because, I am going to turn the machine off (it was midnight)
Everyone: No....
My Favourite German: No...but if you give it to me for free, I'll have one....
Waitress: Umm...Ok, what coffee would you like?

When I travelled back to my 'beautiful city' (which smells like chocolate...we have a chocolate factory here) on Sunday, my favourite German told me to look in my bag on the way back. I did and there was a chunk of banana cake in there for me

Stay tuned. Next time on this blog:

A weekend 282km away

, , , ...

I like to write in 3rd person....so:

Last Friday, Miss Kimbers traveled 282km (according to maps.google.de) with a Mitfahrgelegenheit, her favourite form of travel. Her personal driver was called Thomas, and the other traveler was called Bettina. They drove and drove...and drove through some snow and then some rain...and some more snow. After 3 hours, they arrived in Neuss, where Miss Kimbers caught the train to Duesseldorf. Everyone always has an 'amazed' reaction when Miss Kimbers tells them she is from Australia. From her accent, Thomas thought she was from England or France

Miss Kimbers met her favourite German at his work...and then they went to a patrol station and got a Bounty icecream! They taste sooo good  ...icecreamy and bountyity.... :| Then they walked (briskly) to the train station, only to realise that the trian was late. Good ol' DB! They got home and ate ROSENHOKL

Saturday:
Miss Kimbers and her favourite German woke up early, and went out into the cold to collect a package from the post office. Turns out that some banks in Germany send you pens, if you start an account with them.

The two then took the tram to the Alt Stadt and ate breakfast in Zicke. Why? Because Miss Kimbers had never had breakfast in a place other than a house/apartment/flat before. And, because it's nice to go out for breakfast Unfortunately, the staff cannot cook customers soft boiled eggs. The eggs must be hard boiled.

Most expensive orange juice I have ever had: 3.10 Euro=6.14079 AUD

After eating breakfast in Zicke, the two walked down the street, along the Rhein and to the art school. There was an open day, 'showcasing' all the work of the students. Miss Kimbers didn't understand the reasoning behind 99.9999 % of the art work there...

They have the same sponge as my housemate and me!!!

Ok, I wont *looks at light bulb suspiciously

I have 'gebrochenes Deutsch' :D :D

VORSICHT ANANAS!!! Long story, about a pineapple on the back seat of a car, and the guy who owns the car saying 'vorsicht ananas'...and now, whenever I see a pineapple (ananas), I say 'vorsicht ananas'. Oh, well the story, isn't that long, is it?

Ok, so you're an art student, and you realise you have an assignment due tomorrow...go to your garage, find the box of your old toys...and then rip them apart and make something. A+!

Miss Kimbers and her favourite German then headed back home and along the way, they went to the juice shop. Yum JUICE! Juice makes Miss Kimbers happy. At the Bahnhof (station), Kimbers' favourite German said something and Miss Kimbers didn't understand:

Miss Kimbers: It's not my fault you can't speak English properly!! P:
Favourite German: If you're going to be mean to me, you can go back to your 'pretty city'* P:

Once at home, they drank coffee with biscuits and chocolates (The Favourite German of Miss Kimbers gave her some yummy chocolates!! :D )...and watched Ratalouille in GERMAN and then Så som i himmelen (As it is in Heaven), which is a Swedish film, in GERMAN :D Oh, they also ate fetta cheese too

Sunday:
The two ate more biscuits and a yummy breakfast...and drank coffee...ate chocolates and watched the Body Guard...in GERMAN!

Miss Kimbers is tryingto be German. Lesson 1: sit in the kitchen a lot

A fridge next to an oven...that makes sense

The clock ticked too fast and then it was time for Miss Kimbers to return to her 'pretty city'. It was snowing outside and the Favourite German let Miss Kimbers take his umbrella

*Miss Kimbers' city is not pretty. It got ruined/burnt/destroyed in WW2, and then quickly rebuilt, so it's kind of...ugly...
