Brussel Film Festival: "No puedo vivir sin ti"

, , ,

Title : English title: "No puedo vivir sin ti" / Chinese title : "不能沒有你" / French translation: "impossible de vivre sans toi"
Informations : taiwanese movie - Drama - 1h 32min - 2008 - (beautiful) Black & White
Language :Mandarin and Fujian Dialect - English sub-titles
Director : Dai Liren = Leon Dai : very good director, quite classical direction, sensitive but modest touch.

characteristics (from my point of view) :
  • masterpiece : definitely MUST SEE.
  • direction : very soft, and with a great sense of the picture composition and framing.
  • story : a father, his little daughter, and the indestructible love they have for each other, confronting to the stupid rules of bureaucracy and to poverty. And the industrial harbour as the third main character.
  • very good actors, Chen Wen-Pin (the father) which uses his body as a language, Chao Yo-Hsuan (the daughter) very calm and cute, and the "uncle" (Liu Chin-Ju?) with an amazing ability to express contained interior feelings.
  • THE (two) things that will keep in my mind: the last sequence, a perfect movie sequence (except maybe the music), with a last picture, perfectly framed and played by Chen Wen-Pin (the father). And the sequences viewed from underwater, where the father is looking at his daughter that is surveying at him from the boat.
  • noticeable information: Chen Wen-Pin (the father) is also the producer and co-screenwriter of the movie, with Leon Dai, which is first an actor.
  • Open question: Why the official English title of this Taiwanese film is a Spanish title?
Watched in Brussels, during Brussels Film Festival, Cinédécouvertes, Fri 03 July 2009, at Flagey cinema, Studio 5.

(je me suis mis à l'espagnol depuis peu) :D
