The appeal of certain items of Japanese culture is completely alien to some of us here at Gamestyle Towers. Rather like how the Japanese don't understand why first-person shooters are so popular in the West, we have always found the appeal of the Monster Hunter series very difficult to grasp. This latest iteration doesn't do much to change our view.
Gamestyle has fond memories of the earlier adventures of Link in his quest to rescue Princess Zelda. Although today's games are blessed with 3D graphics and 360 degree control, we still have plenty of time for two dimensions and 8-bit sounds. 3D Dot Game Heroes attempts to unite two generations of gaming, with the classic gameplay of Zelda meeting next gen graphics. For years, when you thought of skateboarding games you thought of Tony Hawk. The skating legend's name was likely more known for his games than his profession in some cases. With the release of Tony Hawk's Pro Skateboarding on the Playstation a new genre was born. It was Mr Hawk's game that was the front runner and pretty much owned the genre for years. Truth be told though, it was a genre that had become very stale, that was until, the team from Black Box stepped up and gave us a new option in 'Skate'.
Is there something about Spartans that means they must keep going back over the same ground constantly? In Halo 1 and Halo 3, Master Chief (a Spartan II) wanders through levels, only to have to go back the way he came to progress. Meanwhile in God of War 3, Kratos falls in to the Underworld and has to climb out, again.
