Using Opera to tell a story so I don't have to repeat it or memorize it

, ,

That Opera apprentice position has been in the back of my mind for weeks now. The only problem is - I keep drawing a blank. Fortunately, I have an advantage over the average writer. Pchan, my mini hotdog, has some sort of psychic power over my brain. I work all night and sleep all day, but when he needs to go outside, he just looks at me and I wake up. Some wierd interspecies esp trick of his.

Yesterday he could tell I needed something to do, so he used his 'lick him till something happens' technique.

I guess that means he needs to go hunting. It's a good thing everything in the world is faster than him. He'd probably get beat up otherwise. Looks like a good day for waterfowl hunting at Dawson Creek. It doesn't take long to find some victims.
After finding the potential prey, Pchan nonchalantly waters a nearby tree, while not looking at the ducks. They seem to feel safe for the time being.

Finally the big moment has arrived. It's time for the attack. Those ducks are lucky Pchan doesn't feel like swimming.
Today is a duck and goose hunting bonanza.....the stupid birds on the other side of the lake didn't see the carnage across the water. Pchan gets to do another big charge.

So it was a highly sucessful day of hunting. Pchan got in his attacks and the birds were all trying to keep from laughing at the nine pound mini hotdog who thought he was a real threat.

Now, I get to put this little story up on My Opera. I'm excited about using Opera 10's Unite feature in the future. I can write tutorials for specific technical questions people ask and make them available as file downloads from my computer or in a website on my computer.

Doing some generator research for the 5th wheel

,

I've started to do some research on generators for the 5th wheel. Lots of things to consider - there's always the price factor, then there's the weight, what type of fuel, and of course the noise. It looks like there is no way of getting by with less than about 3000 watts to run the air conditioning. Honda and Yamaha make some excellent possibilities to meet this demand - either 2 2000 watts ganged together or one 2800 - 3000 watt unit that will do the job.

The smaller units weigh in at 70 pounds each, but have less than 5 hour runtime on a tank of gas. The larger units weigh 150 pounds, but can run for 10+ hours on a tank. In addition to these factors, there's the LP gas alternative, which might be appealing, since there are 2 tanks already in the RV and a couple of extras might not be a bad way to go.

Here's a list of links to articles and manufacturer web sites about generators....

5 12 The Portland Rose Garden

, , , ...

Still a month until the roses at the rose garden start to go into full bloom, but we decided to go for a walk there anyway, just to do the before and after thing. Besides, it's a good place for walking with all of the little side trails, hills and views of downtown Portland.

We talked to an older man who was applying fertilizer to the roses, one plant at a time. He's the only one who does that job, three times a year. Found out there are over 8,000 rose plants in the garden.

Even though the roses have a way to go, the rhodies and flowering trees made the walk worth it. Would have been a little better if we could have seen Mt Hood, but can't complain - it didn't rain until we were driving home.

5 11 A walk in the woods near Rock Creek

, ,

Still getting used to working 12 hour night shifts. It takes me a couple of days to reset myself to be able to do anything in the daytime. Monday we took the hotdog for a walk in the park near Rock Creek.

Most of the spring blossoms on trees are starting to come to an end. There are other flowers just starting....like these ones -

Can't wait till next weekend when I have 4 days off.
