Opera Force Search Engine Choice?

Re. my post: Cannot Delete bing Search!

Cannot Delete bing Search!
Since upgrading to version 11.10/win, I cannot get rid of the bing search in the drop down list.

I've used the appropriate Manage Search Engines option and restarted Opera, and even replaced all default Search.ini files with my own and made them Read Only. But it keeps reappearing. Have never experienced this scenario with previous versions.

Also, significantly, the bing search does not appear in the Search.ini file.

Opera have always liked to push their search options on their users, but now it seems they have hard-coded this into the program rather than an editable Search.ini file as in previous versions. This is the sort of forced 'choice' one would expect of a company like Apple. - It would appear a change in the file format of Search.ini has created this anomaly. READ FURTHER DOWN.

Update: I'm not alone
Cannot manage my search engines

Update: Replication
• Have been able to replicate this issue with Opera@USB v11.10 as well.

Searches are protected in 11.10 because several applications have started hijacking the searches when you install them. If you edit searches from within Opera, you should be safe.

SOLVED?
By deleting, or commenting out, the Options section of one's Search.ini file, everything appears to be editable, as before.

This is a silly conspiracy theory. I deleted Bing, and it's still gone.

This topic seems to be attracting an odd bunch today, both here and on the forum. Must be a full moon. p

It is no such thing. It is in fact the opposite. It confirms that Bing is not being forced on anyway.

Your claim is that they are forcing it on everyone no matter what. The fact is that you can easily delete the default searches, meaning that your original claim is demonstrably false.

I think it's not a forced search engine. It's just another stupid bug.
Also options section appears again after restart Opera

What is that bug supposed to be exactly? They made it perfectly clear that you should edit search engines from within Opera.

So, not a bug, but a feature to protect searches.

I edit them from opera, and all changes gone after restart. Opera protects searches from itself. Feature, that doesn't work very well =\

Edd writes: For me, this is a great set back. I like to mess around with simple code and I've had my own customized Opera settings files ( bookmarks, blocked URLs, search engines, icons and speeddial links ) associated with a lovely batch that would overwrite the original Opera installed files. Why ? Because every reinstall I do, every update I do, all my old settings get deleted. Especially search engines. With my batch, through a double click of a button, I'd have all my settings and search engines back. "Edit from within Opera" is not a good enough solution for me. Too bad, I regarded Opera highly. That changed with this latest change.
