Walking over sky, following a bird...

Moon and planets

Just one short post. This is a photo I made this evening on my way back from a job. Moon and two planets.

I have never seen anything like this before. Photo is a bit blurry, it was going to be covered with clouds soon and I knew I will have no second chance :D

Darko 1. December 2008, 21:07

Exactly my thought!!!

r♡se 1. December 2008, 21:07

Oh wow! That looks really neat!

:sst: You either work late, or it gets dark early in Serbia these days...

Darko 1. December 2008, 21:22

Rose, in 5 p.m. it is always dark in this part of a year. When was it you were here last time? :D

r♡se 1. December 2008, 21:29

Maybe 15 years ago or something like that... and only during the summertime p:.

Darko 1. December 2008, 21:31

Anyway, there`s no much fun here during winter awww

PainterWoman 1. December 2008, 21:36

Very eerie looking. I have seen it here in Arizona and I used to know what it meant...

Winter Solstice maybe?

Darko 1. December 2008, 21:43

Don`t know. I think it is in December 22nd :left:

Allan 1. December 2008, 21:52

Any way to find out which two planets I wonder?

Stardancer 1. December 2008, 22:12

Those planets are Venus (the brighter one) and Jupiter. This has been in the news quite a bit lately.

Bea 1. December 2008, 22:14

wow! great!

Edward Piercy 2. December 2008, 00:54

Sorry, Turkey beat you to it --

Angeliki 2. December 2008, 02:36

Darko this is a stellar picture! ( blurry it doesn't count!) I was looking from my window to see if i can spot anything too,
but the New York City sky it is not a moon friendly...
I am glad you had your camera with you

Stardancer 2. December 2008, 03:37

I got to see this in person tonight with a couple of friends. We had talked about this very thing last week, as Venus and Jupiter were beginning to edge closer to each other, and they came by tonight just as the clouds parted in the southwestern sky. It was beautiful! And amazing!

Angeliki 2. December 2008, 03:51

 I wish I can see something more than High Sky Scrappers !! this is amazing!!

but I am glad my friends did see it p:

Danny Boy, FCD 2. December 2008, 04:27

Heh, in my case, the Venus-Jupiter-Luna triangle formed a smiley face.

Eric 2. December 2008, 04:29

Wow! I was hoping to see this today, but the sky was completely clouded over. :frown:

Thanks for posting!

Edward Piercy 2. December 2008, 04:34

Perhaps a bit more serious this time...you may find this info relevant.

P.S. I couldn't get the video things to work. But there is a written out script. Also below is a link to the graphics, which on the second one you can see how everything progresssed, with the moon in that graphic moving down through the night sky until it got to the right of Venus, with Jupiter then being up to the right.

Darko 2. December 2008, 05:51

Allan - I suppose there are informations in NASA or Hubble web sites, but Star has already provide us with info

Star - thank you

Bea - it is great, yes

Ed, I thought about their flag the moment I saw it, only this time it is turned to another side; thanks for the link

Angeliki - maybe if you go on top of some tall building

Dan - it is probably because you live on the other part of the world so you could see it in another part of forming

Eric - I was lucky, because few minutes later it was completely covered with clouds

Darko, I saw this last night, however, in Arizona, the stars were underneath the moon and the space between them was half what you see in your photo. This was around 6:30 pm.

I had to drive my daughter in law to class but asked my son to take a photo. I hope he did. We shall see the positioning tonight and I will try with my old camera.

Darko 2. December 2008, 18:03

I`ve checked this evening but the position of planets are totally different. As Opera user Stomyr mentioned in his post, it will be visible like this again in 2044. Yesterday it was now or never :D

PainterWoman 2. December 2008, 18:06

"Yesterday it was now or never"

:irked: Well, then I hope my son took a photo!

Darko 2. December 2008, 18:29

Angeliki 2. December 2008, 20:07

Darko, I am in a tall bldg, It is the pollution that blinds the beauty of the sky :frown:

Darko 2. December 2008, 20:30

Mit 4. December 2008, 16:07

I had missed a chance to see it awww

Darko 4. December 2008, 17:25

I am sorry. But you are young enough, you will see it again in 2044

Mit 4. December 2008, 17:35

36 years :faint: I should have someone remind me :D

Darko 4. December 2008, 17:42

You will work somewhere in orbit by that time :D No one will need to remind you :D

Mit 4. December 2008, 17:55

Ok, I will if you lend me your wings

Darko 4. December 2008, 17:58

Ahhhh, you must find your own wings. I got attached to these ones :D

Mit 4. December 2008, 18:04

Really? awww in a second. So, I'm looking for them now, start from your page :left: :right:

Darko 4. December 2008, 18:31

:D

studio41 4. December 2008, 23:51

Nice, Darko. I saw that same moon a couple days ago, but on this side of the globe, the two other lights were on the lower right side of the moon... it, too, was striking and interesting.

studio41 4. December 2008, 23:51

Nice, Darko. I saw that same moon a couple days ago, but the two other lights apparent were on the lower right side of the moon...

Darko 5. December 2008, 05:35

Yes, I have seen how it looks like from USA, I think someone posted it. Thank you

studio41 5. December 2008, 05:37

I wonder, are they the same lights, then? I know nothing of this sort of thing... pretty, though.
