Get laser eye surgery in belfast A Guide To Eye Care After Laser Surgery

, ,

If you have chosen to have laser surgery as a way of solving visual problems that you may have then you may be expecting a quick and simple cure. This is, indeed, the case for many people who find that they can throw away their glasses and lenses real quick after their operation is done.

It is, however, important to make sure that you follow your doctor's advice when it comes to your eye care routine after this kind of surgery. Laser procedures may be quick, safe and simple but they still involve an operation on your eyes which are, after all, very delicate organs.

So, the more care you take after your operation, the more successful your operation will be. You'll probably find, for example, that your doctor asks you to wear an eye shield for a few days to protect your eyes so make sure to do this. You may be asked to wear a shield during the day and the night or just when you are asleep.

The big benefit of an eye shield is that is simply stops you scratching your eyes which can cause damage when they are in a fragile post-operative state. Most of us will subconsciously move to rub our eyes when they itch, water a lot or feel scratchy and dry and you can experience all of these feelings in the days after a laser operation. An eye shield will simply prevent problems from occurring here.

Your doctor may also ask you to put in eye drops for a few days after your operation. This may be to avoid eye infections and/or to keep your eyes moist. It is important to do this as it will help promote healing, avoid problems and simply make your eyes feel better.

Your doctor may also give you a list of things not to do in the first few days or weeks after your procedure -- again, you should listen to what they say and do what you are told! So, for example, you may be told not to use cosmetics and eye creams for a couple of weeks after surgery.

You may also be told not to go swimming or to take on any contact sports for a few weeks. Going against advice here could see you damage your eyes or cause problems with the procedure as your eyes heal. It is also important not to put in contacts for a specific period. It is tempting to think about doing this in the early stages after your procedure as your sight may well still be blurred. But, this could again cause damage.

It is easy to forget about post operative eye care here especially if you can already see some improvements to your vision. But, your doctor does not ask you to do (and not to do) certain things just to be difficult and there will always be a good reason for the restrictions they give and the actions that they ask you to do. The fact is that you'll see the best problem free results if you follow your eye care routines to the letter after your operation.
