Canadian Geomatics Industry survey findings and Geospatial Data Infrastructure RFI

Need some geospatial market research for your business plan? Statistics Canada has announced the release of the findings from the 2004 Census Survey of the Canadian Geomatics Industry. The Daily Release provides a number of key results including:

The industry is composed of over 2,200 firms that provide geomatics products or services;
Industry revenue from the sale of geomatics products or services reached $2.8 billion in 2004 with double digit growth rates in 2003 and 2002
The Earth Sciences Sector (ESS) of Natural Resources Canada contracted Statistics Canada to carry out this survey. More info available here.

Canadian Geomatics Industry survey

Browsing Geoconnections tonight and I ran over a post from a couple of months ago that should be of interest for anyone looking for some industry market research. These come from the 2004 Census Survey of the Canadian Geomatics Industry. The Daily Release (http://www.statcan.ca/Daily/English/060315/d060315e.htm) provides a number of key results including: The industry is composed of over 2,200 firms that provide geomatics products or services;
Industry revenue from the sale of geomatics products or services reached $2.8 billion in 2004 with double digit growth rates in 2003 and 2002;
Alberta has the highest number of firms (27%) providing geomatics products or services followed by ON, QC and BC; and,
Surveying continues to be the most common geomatics activity.
