As part of my duties running GISuser and other pubs I get loads of email. Quite often it's simply from people asking questions.. you know, like a 24/7 help line! This one this morning from a reader was a bit odd and left me wondering what to tell her...
I was very suprised to find that Autodesk's authorized dealer in my area is "Palestine," and "Israel" is not listed. Why?
I gladly suggested she contact the company in question for more info (I don't jump into these political topic areas!)

Just got back from a nice, short trip over the inlet to sunny Vancouver where I got the low-down once again on the latest solutions from Autodesk. MapGuide Enterprise 2007 will no doubt be received very warmly once it ships (July 3 I believe) and "Studio" looks awesome and so simple that I could even author a MapGuide website with it! Cool stuff now in AutoCAD 2007. On a side note, to the dude that was at the event coughing up a lung, gagging, bubbling, and making all kinds of noises.. I feel for you but next time maybe grab a nap, take a few aspirin, and stay home as you aren't doing anyone any favors attending an event and making so much noise! On a side note... no Lynn Allen in attendance this time... too bad.. I know there was quite a few CAD guys there that would have enjoyed seeing her.. maybe next time. FYI, some 600+ people were in attendance at the event this morning.. nice turn-out!

mapserver, open source, autodesk, mapguide
...
Recent information supplied by Autodesk has informed us that the company has changed the name of MapServer Enterprise (Previously code named “Tux”)... enter MapGuide Open Source: Open source version. New names of various flavors are to include:
new names are of the various versions of it are as follows:
Autodesk MapGuide® Enterprise 2007: Commercial version (available later this year)
Autodesk MapGuide® Studio 2007: Commercial authoring tool (available later this year)
According to the company there were two reasons for the decision. The existing open source web mapping community voiced concern about confusion over the existing MapServer project and Autodesk’s web mapping product. Also, the current MapGuide customers and partners communicated they would prefer a name and a brand that they know well and identify with. Online discussions (See the mapserver discussion list )are underway to find a new name for the MapServer Foundation, which is now seeking other open source geospatial projects to join the effort. Reminder - the MapServer Foundation and members of the open source geospatial community are scheduled to meet February 4th in Chicago. See also
