Nokia contributes source code for S60 WebKit to open source community

In a bold move, Nokia today has announced they are turning over the source code from the popular S60 (series 60) web browser to the open source movement. The code will fall under the BSD license. The mobile web browser replicates on handheld devices "true" web-page rendering. KEppthis in mind though... there are some 3 billion mobile device users on the planet - or expected to be by 2008, whereas we're looking at a mere 1 billion PC Internet users... you can see where this is an exciting move. The s60 browser has full compatibility with AJAX technologies, support for DHTML. The app is based on WebCore and components of teh Apple Safari browser. For more info see www.webkit.org where the source code will be made available. See also the full announcement here
