Keep Up To Date With Twitter Using RSS

In days gone by, Twitter had RSS icons and links on various pages. By doing so, one could easily keep up to date with what was happening on Twitter without even bothering to log in.
Undoubtedly someone realized that keeping people on site was their entire reason for existing (think revenue opportunities), so RSS links started disappearing. It has been replaced with 'saved searches' which you can access only by logging in to Twitter!
The wonderful people over at sociable.co (of which I'm not associated in any way) were kind enough to give some great tips on how you can still access Twitter RSS feeds.
Apparently the Twitter RSS code still exists, but it's just not published on their pages any more!!
Some of my favorite usages include:
- Search for a term
- Search for multiple terms
- Search for location and terms
In the location + terms example above, you will see two sets of location numbers (latitude and longitude). It is searching for permaculture and hydroponics tweets by people withing 100km of Glasgow. Very slick!
You can find whatever point on the globe which interests you via geocodes. Just swap your coordinates and search terms in the example and voila.
Build your own custom RSS feeds and monitor the Twitter conversations via RSS in your favorite feed reader. Newsblur is my favorite, without question.
