My OperaSEO Tools for Improved Productivity: Advanced Web Ranking

The below is strictly my opinion of Advanced Web Ranking (AWR) based upon my initial impressions immediately following first install. I’m sure that over time these opinions would change, but only time will tell. I have not been paid for this and am not affiliated with Advanced Web Rankings or Caphyon.
Caphyon have produced a range of online software which target individuals as well as agencies who need to keep an eye on their website rankings, traffic, linking opportunities and more. For me, their flagship product is Advanced Web Ranking, a program designed to make it easy for tracking exactly how a site ranks on particular keywords.
Anyone who has tried to keep track of their website rankings has a common pain point – time. Each and every day/week/month, or however often we check back to see how our sites are doing, we have to launch a web browser, make sure we’re not logged in (to prevent personal preferences from creeping into play) and then run a series of searches. Personally, I used to put those results in an online spreadsheet on Google Docs, just because I was afraid of losing them on a spreadsheet – since I somehow manage to reformat my machine, or break a hard drive, at least once each year.
With AWR, the process of checking rankings is simple:
- Pick which Google specific engine to use (In my case, I chose Google UK)
- Add the website URL
- Add the keywords to track
- Wait for the results to be accumulated and presented
- Job Done!
Search engines have a protection mechanism which stops them with getting flooded by requests from the same person (IP address). This is to prevent people from abusing the system, scraping results for spamming, and so forth. Overall, this throttling is a very good thing.
AWR is aware of the search engines throttling mechanism and thus spreads requests out over time. It ‘sleeps’ between requests to the same search engines, for a few seconds, to avoid throttling. It also keeps you up to date on progress overall, as well as progress on each search engine – keyword combination, so that you know it is actively working and hasn’t actually fallen asleep
While I wait on my first project search results, which looks like it will take about 3 or 4 minutes, I’ll quickly mention one installation requirement – operating system. Personally, I run a Windows 7 laptop sitting next to a Fedora Core Linux desktop. Oddly enough, my wife uses an Apple Mac desktop and Ubuntu Linux laptop. So, for us, finding software that is multi-platform is always a big plus. AWR runs on Windows, Mac or Linux, which is something I wish was true for all software of choice.
My first ranking project is just wrapping up at about the 18 minute mark. I had selected 6 different search engines and engine – location combinations as well as 5 keywords to check on each. Those included Bing, Yahoo, Social Metrics (not sure what this is, but it looks good heheh), Google, Google UK and Google UK (UK). I thought it prudent to try the various Google versions to see the variations, since it’s the most popular engine at the moment. There were options to include/exclude Google Places data, but I left that out (largely due to my current dismay at Google Places / Local changes and what that will mean to my project).
At this point I the software has been so easy to use that I can’t find fault, or reason to suggest improvement, in anything. Trust me – I can normally find fault in anything!
Reactions to the results of the first run report:
- It was very quick and easy to setup the project and run
- The data format took a minute to get used to and play around with since it was new to me
- It gave me everything I had hoped for, and more, in terms of information
- I was able to easily export to PDF, Excel and HTML
- It even asked if I wanted to schedule this for regular updates automatically – sweet!
Conclusion:
The Advanced Web Ranking software is easy to install then get up and running in no time at all. Even rank novices will find it a breeze after 5 minutes of clicking various things to see what they do, though most everything is self-explanatory. Seasoned professionals will appreciate the customizations, reporting capabilities, data import / export, integration with analytics and other horsepower features.
In short, I would recommend this as a website rankings checker and reporting tool.

1) Visit the product specific website for AWR seo software
2) Download and run the 82mb installer
3) Pick ‘Get Trial License’
4) Choose the version to try (I picked Enterprise because of the extra features)
5) Add your name and email address
6) Check your email for license code
7) Continue with the install wizard which gives great tips on how to use the software
8) Voila
*Note: Install requires Java to be already present on the machine (Windows, Mac, or Linux)
