, , ,

On May 16 and May 17, 2009 the 42nd Annual Elkfest will be held. The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring this event. While the Elkfest is being held there will also be a 42nd annual world famous Jackson Hole Boy Scout Elk Antler Auction event. When you join this event you will get to enjoy the outdoors and try out your outdoors skills.

It is at the spring time when thousands of elks from the National Elk Refuge migrate to their summer range. But before they will make this travel they will lose their antlers. There will be Boy Scouts assisting the Refuge in collecting these antlers. After the antlers are collected there will be an auction to bidders.

There are craft makers all over the world who will bid for these antlers. They will use this material to make furniture, wall decorations, jewelry and food products. This is an event that is visited by local and national visitors.

The Elkfest does not only auction antlers but there are other activities that visitors can enjoy during this weekend event. There will be a Chili Cook-Off with live band performances and the kick-off of a Mountain Man Rendezvous & an Antler Rendezvous. The Elkfest proceeds about 80% of it will go back to the winter feeding program on the National Elk Refuge.

At the National Elk visitors will get to celebrate the beauty of the outdoor nature by riding a horse drawn sleigh while watching elk wintering in the Refuge. Visitors do not only see the beauty of the elks but they can also learn more about the history of the Elk at the Jackson Hole Greater Yellowstone Visitor Center.

On May 16 from 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M the Elkfest officially open. Visitors can expect different activities ranging from live band performance to auctions of the antlers. At 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. the Mountain Man Rendezvous and Traders Row will start. Then on May 17 to May 25 there will be a Antler Rendezvous from 9:00A.M. to 6:00 P.M. The Historic Downtown High Noon Chili Cook-Off will start at 12:00 Noon on May 18.
