Greenhouses

Greenhouses are fantastic. That's all that really needs to be said. But for those of you who aren't sold yet on greenhouses, haven't made them a priority for whatever reason, you came to the right place.

Here are some of the big reasons:

1. Heat. Greenhouses naturally trap heat from the sun. It shines in through the glass and then get stored inside. This is a great way of growing crops during non-peak seasons and through the winter months when the ground would normally be too cold for growing. This is truly one of the key benefits.

2. Protection. Once you've got your plants some walls, you've got protection from deer, racoons, field mice, and other creatures. Not enough can be said about this. Even tall fences are sometimes manageable by deer or can be dug underneath by animals that catch the smell of your garden. If you are going to build a fence, be sure to put some kind of visible, top edging to it. For some reason deer don't push themselves to jump it - despite very possibly being able to jump much higher.

3. Predictability. If you control the environment and temperature inside the greenhouse, you can avoid the risk of losing crops due to these temperature fluctuations. A change in the weather can have dramatic effects and being able to avoid the problems associated with that is a powerful tool. This is especially important early on in a plants life when they're not hearty enough to withstand large fluctuations.

4. Hydroponic possibilities. With hydroponics, you're looking at the most optimum way of growing plants. It involves feeding plants with liquid nutrition using lighting ballasts (high powered artificial sunlight). In these scenarios, you can have growth that is far superior to regular gardening setups.

Bottom line, they're great.
