Do Parents Make Great Tutors or Not?

, , , , , , , , ,

Parents want the best for their children especially when it comes to their education. They will work hard for their children’s school expenses even if it means working on rest days and weekends. They want their children to have a bright future and get a professional career. Parents will do everything just to provide the needs of their children even to the extent of making themselves tutors.

Parents as tutors- this is actually no longer a new concept. But the question is do parents make great tutors or not?

Parents are trying to help their child academically by tutoring them at home. However, such type of tutoring, compared with tutor online and conventional tutoring, receives negative remarks. Based on several studies, it was found out that parental tutoring just worsens the child’s school performance. Such result is attributed to the presence of pressure put on children. The latter feels more pressured when it is their parents who are teaching them. They get intimidated especially when their parents are too intelligent or smart. Also, there are some students who just confused when they are taught by their parents. Let’s face the reality. Parents have a different way of discussing lessons and this may not be similar with that of the school teachers.

Still, there is a positive side of parental tutoring. Students who are close with their moms or dads won’t be shy to ask them questions especially when they cannot comprehend the lesson. They are more comfortable to inquire and even repeat questions until they finally get it.

So, are parents great tutors or not? It is only you who can answer this question.
