State of the Opera: Q1 2008

The financial result for the first quarter of 2008 were announced today. To summarize: Opera is profitable, has lots of cash, and revenues are growing rapidly in all business segments.

Some highlights:
  • Opera is profitable; revenues growing faster than expenses
  • Record quarter with an overall revenue growth of 57%
  • Expenses 25% up
  • Desktop revenue up 56% due to more users and higher Average Revenue Per User (ARPU)
  • More than 20 million monthly Desktop users
  • 10% growth in Desktop user base since Q4 2007
  • 11.9 million people used Opera Mini in March
  • 20 billion pages viewed through Opera Mini so far
  • Monthly page views through Opera Mini going through the roof
  • Large increase in Opera Mini revenue streams
  • Major new mobile/device customers announced (and more to be announced)
  • Opera has now passed the 500 employees mark (yes, there was cake)
