Clicky Web Analytics: Opera beats Chrome, doubles market share after Google Chrome launch

, , ,

Tabloid headline alert! (But the numbers are as reported by Clicky.)

Since everyone seems to be coming to conclusions based on random browser statistics, I hereby declare that the launch of Google Chrome has been a great success for Opera. According to Clicky Web Analytics, Opera's global market share has nearly doubled, from 1.3% (September 3) to 2.3% (September 7). It is in fact ahead of Chrome at time of writing:

Clicky has been getting a lot of nice press coverage because of their clever move to use the Chrome launch to promote their services. I wonder when the headlines all over the Web will read "Opera's market share soars after Chrome launch" or "Opera beats Google's Chrome".

Keep in mind that Chrome has been receiving heavy media coverage, and has also been promoted on Google's front page since launch. On the other hand, a lot of Chrome articles in the media have mentioned Opera.

Just to be clear: While the numbers are the actual numbers reported by Clicky, the headline is meant as a sort of joke based on all the headlines making claims about browser market share. I am genuinely curious, though, to see if anyone will bother to mention it when Opera is ahead, and not just when Chrome is ahead of Opera in these stats

Update 2008-09-11: Opera is ahead again, at time of writing:

by hovering on the chart, i get 3 september as (1.071%) and 7 september as (1.614%), (any one confirm ?), another statistic change ? i can no more trust any analytic service
anyway, even between 1.614 and 1.071 % of marketshare, opera got some remarkable increase, more than one and half of it's state before launching chrome
