I use Safari because I keep forgetting to download Opera...

, , , , , , ,

BBC's Click Online is airing a piece on the browser ballot, which includes a statements from the execs of the various browser vendors, and video comments from users.

I think the best part of the video is the girl at 04:05, who is supposed to explain why she uses Safari:

I use Safari to browse the internet because I keep forgetting to download Opera, and Safari is OK... most of the time

Priceless smile

Opera should track her down and present her with a copy on a disc, or a USB key. Would be a nice little PR stunt.

Actually, the best part is that the site's volume slider goes to ELEVEN. You know it's gotta be good.

0:48 They also use Opera's old logo for the intro (minus the shaddow, but still). It's weird, because they have the new one behind Jon.

Is there anyone who doesn't say their browser is fast(est) ? Even Avant.

I think it's for the people who have seen the old Opera logo in the past - to them to recognize Opera - and right after they show the new Opera logo so they can recognize it in the present.

Not only 10.5, give some Opera gifts to her: chocolates and a shirt for example. smile

Just for comedic value, not meant to offend anyone. I am in fact a Socialistic Party voter myself. Maybe "punk" would have been a better word.

And report about it on the desktopteam blog bigsmile

KawaKyoufuKawa Saturday, March 6, 2010 7:58:38 PM

Don't worry people, next time Kiyoshi1981 makes an offensive joke, I am fully capable of knocking him upside the head if you think he needs it wink

And I too think that getting that girl a copy of Opera and some choccies and a shirt would be great exposure.

I do not appreciate comments that make fun of people's looks and similar things. Baker can be whatever she wants to be without having to have derogatory comments thrown at her.

This blog is not the place for comments like some of the ones I have seen here.

Heh, so Safari too must know what it's like to have mule status alongside IE.

Good point. I'm sorry. Just couldn't help it, I support open source but I really dislike Firefox's big market share, since most of it is caused by the spreading of myths. And Opera has always been better ;P

I have nothing against anyone who works for Mozilla. Competition is good.

d4rkn1ght Sunday, March 7, 2010 2:06:50 AM

lol at the IE user on the bed! lol

_Grey_ Sunday, March 7, 2010 3:03:08 AM

Haavard: I don't know if your reprimand was directed at me, too. But for posterity, I will defend my previous post.

I think that if people style themselves such as to be noticeably different, one should be able to comment upon that. Contrary to what some people might think, 'individualism' does come with tradeoffs. Not commenting at all upon it is like ignoring the elephant in the room.

And I happen to think "punk" is generally a describing attribute for the person, as well as the browser.

I think people call Richard Stallman a hippie for his looks and some very bad names for his behavior. Yet he did and does things important and dear to a lot of us techies. "VIP"s just have to endure this tiresome tirade of negative and nonconstructive feedback, I'm afraid.

experttease Sunday, March 7, 2010 11:43:52 AM

I thought Mitchell Baker's promotion of Firefox was pretty weak, but it had nothing to do with her hair; to the average person she spoke in riddles. I sort of, nearly agree with you Grey as a general point, but this is Haarvard's front room we're in. Also, I think it's a personal decision whether you are the one to make the negative criticism or not, however inevitable it may be. I for one choose not to. Anyway shall we leave it there?

Cutting Spoonhellspork Monday, March 8, 2010 4:51:46 PM

Has anyone seen the other video floating around? Comments from a number of Opera's senior staff, several just trailing off and getting immersed in their computers? smile

"Choice-Screen-Video-News-Release.mov", it's been posted in a few places now.

EDIT: http://www.opera.com/media/video/Choice-Screen-Video-News-Release.mov

If you've got the VLC Plugin, Quicktime or similar, you can play it directly in a new tab.

When I bought this phone that I'm using now, one of the features that I considered to be a 'must have' feature was that it had to be fully capable of running the Operamini 4.0 beta, including the 'new' file management functions of the JSR-75 specification that was a new feature in Operamini at that time! p.
That's why I bought a Nokia. left. (Nokia E65)

Ahmad NabiltheOperaLover Tuesday, April 6, 2010 9:24:19 AM

wink I downloaded Opera because it's more better than IE
