OneStat does browser statistics, but can't detect browsers properly on their own site

,

Hallvord has just been looking into an issue with the OneStat site, and he found that their browser sniffing script is hopelessly out of date, causing Opera to break. OneStat publishes browser statistics every now and then, but I wonder how reliable those statistics are when they can't even do browser sniffing correctly on their own site...

Could Google's browser statistics replace Net Application and StatCounter?

, , , ...

Mozilla's Asa Dotzler wants Google to start providing browser usage statistics again.

I completely agree.

Asa also thinks that Google's statistics will be more globally representative than what we have to day.

That, I don't agree with.

Mobile Web usage and revenue explodes in Russia

, , , ...

According to procontent.ru, ComNews Research has published a report on the mobile internet market in Russia. According to the report, revenue grew by 87% in 2008 thanks to a growth in the number of mobile Web users.

It is interesting to note that according to StatCounter, Opera Mini has a nearly 80% market share of the mobile browser market in Russia. Although browser statistics are highly unreliable, StatCounter does mirror some of the statistics for several major sites in Russia. It seems to be much more reliable than other services, such as Net Applications, which focus almost exclusively on the United States.

So while one should remain skeptical of browser statistics, it is an interesting thought that Opera might be the main driver of mobile data traffic growth in Russia!

Even in times of economic turmoil, people obviously keep browsing the Web. This is why Opera Software is doing very well financially, while other companies are struggling.

More and more mobile operators are also realizing that Opera Mini (and Opera Turbo) can help them get the most out of their current network infrastructure without costly network upgrades.

Europeans switched from Firefox to IE and Opera in March

, , , ...

According to StatCounter, March was a tough month for Firefox. It dropped 1.73% in Europe (down to 36.81%). On the other hand, IE gained 1.01% (up to 50.15%), and Opera gained 0,55% (up to 7.9%). It looks like Firefox users may actually be switching to IE and perhaps also to Opera, which must be worrying for Mozilla. Is Firefox is more vulnerable to changes in the market than other browsers? As we recall, Chrome actually caused an increase in the number of Opera downloads, and accelerated Opera's desktop user growth.

Clicky Web Analytics: Opera beats Chrome, doubles market share after Google Chrome launch

, , ,

Tabloid headline alert! (But the numbers are as reported by Clicky.)

Since everyone seems to be coming to conclusions based on random browser statistics, I hereby declare that the launch of Google Chrome has been a great success for Opera. According to Clicky Web Analytics, Opera's global market share has nearly doubled, from 1.3% (September 3) to 2.3% (September 7). It is in fact ahead of Chrome at time of writing:
