New Features and Price for PSP !!

On today's PlayStation Business Briefing 2006, Sony Computer Entertainment has announced an upcoming revolution for the PlayStation Portable. There will be tons of new features to be added to this divine object of glory in the upcoming months. A delay to the PS3 release has also been announced officially.

The users will be able to add new exciting functions, such as the Macromedia Flash Player, and will be expanding the current RSS channel function to support streaming and saving internet radio and videos, by updating the System Software of the PSP (the firmware) to the latest version.

New official accessories will also be released this autumn, such as the PSP camera "PSP-300" and the GPS receiver "PSP-290". The users will be able to experience the motion tracing function of the EyeToy, which was originally available on the PS2 by using the PSP camera. With the help of the GPS receiver, you will be able to make use of navigation software to guide your way all over the world.

Sony will be starting a new e-Distribution system for the PSP. You may start to wonder what it is, huh? Well, simply saying - to buy and download games into your memory stick, and run them directly from it!! Bye-bye, loading times... But wait, that is not all the fun you can get from the new service. There will also be an OFFICIAL PlayStation Emulator by Sony itself (PacManFan, don't cry)! Sony will be distributing modified PlayStation/PlayStation 2 games through this system.

Also, the "Ceramic White" PSP will be sold in a normal pack (PSP, 1 battery, power adapter) from April in Japan, at a price for 19,800 JPY (167.8 USD). North American and European users will be able to buy a "Base Model" pack (PSP, 1 battery, power adapter) of the PSP at 199USD/199 Euro. The actually dates are: Europe from March 22, North American from the end of March.

So much for the PSP side, now here is a bad news for the PS3 fans. Sony has officially announced that the release of the PS3 is postponed from this spring to early November of 2006. However, the release of the PS3 will be global - Asia, North America and Europe will be getting the release in the mean time. Sony will be able to offer 1 million consoles per month after the release, to meet the need of the users around the world.

From PSP Updates

AIMonPSP BETA Released!

While there have have been web-based AOL Instant Messengers (AIM) which work decently on the PSP in the past, such as the one available at WebAIM.net, lots of users have been complaining about their servers being constantly full, and sub-par performance on the PSP.

Well now there is a new contender in town, and also the first "made-for-PSP" web-based AIM chat out there, AIMonPSP.com. They have just released the new 'BETA' version of their Javascript-based AIM, which fits perfectly for the PSPs screen size, has a clean and simple interface, and loads pretty fast at that. The server user limit is set to 200 max users, and since it's so new, not that many people are using it quite yet, so get on it and enjoy. The final version could only get better.

UMD Fails On PSP

By Joshua Tyler: 2006-02-17

Finally, the portable movies craze looks like it’s dying. Our friends over at The Movie Blog report on a story they found somewhere (I don’t know where, they’re quoting someone but don’t cite a source) about the predictably lackluster sales of UMD movies for Sony’s handheld gaming machine, the PSP. To sum it up, no one is buying UMD movies, and so Sony is cutting back on UMD production.

Watching movies on tiny handheld devices really got momentum going when the Sony PSP came out and stole people’s cash by selling them movies in a special format for watching on their handheld gaming machine. It’s been over-advertised everywhere, and since its inception everyone’s been predicting it as the next “it” in entertainment technology. Watching movies on teeny, tiny screens while you walk through the park is being shoved down our throats as the new, cool, hip thing. But what kind of movie fan wants to watch a feature film on a screen so small that they can only make out half the details of what’s going on?

The home theatre craze and the popularity of DVDs was born out of the general moviegoer’s desire for a high quality movie viewing experience. I can’t remember ever wishing for the ability to watch Lord of the Rings in a port-o-potty. If you’re regularly watching movies on your Sony PSP, you just don’t like movies. Apparently most people agree with me, since UMDs look to be well on their way to failing. It’s a novelty and nothing more.

Next up… the failure of the video IPod. And please, stop making movies available to me on my phone. No thanks. Let’s use all this technological know-how for something useful, like jetpacks or robotic women. What ever happened to the fully immersive virtual reality predicted by the softcore porn industry nearly twenty years ago? Put down your Blackberry and get to work on a hyper-realistic version of Shannon Tweed. Mobility is great, but only if you don’t care about quality.
