Blagden Alley and Naylor Court Jesting

More Census

Two Matters:

The astute reader may have noticed such lines as:
41 1239 Tenth Street, N Welch Nellie Wife F 48 M W
Illinois Sameplace

That's because the editor did not leave enough room in his little print program for "NW".
Over the next several days he will redo the posts on block 28 and fix that.

The other matters is: How does one find the block? Well, as part of the package for a state or territory or "district", there are a set of maps for each enumeration district. DC has twelve.

Here is a portion of one of them where Blagden Alley sits:

Under the circled 49, one sees a block numbered "28". That's us. North of that is block 25.

The editor will pop up those results in a bit.

One More Thing...

The editor is entering Block 25 now, and has

37 940 O Street, NW Kennedy Lee Lodger M 24 M NEG
South Carolina Sameplace Laborer Constractor
38 940 O Street, NW Kennedy Esther Lodger F 23 M NEG
Georgia Sameplace
39 940 O Street, NW Kennedy Rose Lodger F 10 S NEG
Washington, DC Sameplace

in there.

The "sameplace" occupies the slot where one was 5 years ago. If "sameplace", it's the same as where you were born. So why was Lee in Georgia, and Esther in SC 5 years ago, have a son of 10 who was born in DC and was here 5 years ago besides? The editor has seen similar for block 28, but didn't get around to commenting on it. For that matter, why do some of the census types put down "private family" and others "private home" for the "where" of occupation such as maid? Just askin'.
