The editor suggested that something abnormal, if not paranormal, was happening in the electronic spectrum at the corner of Ninth and M here and here.
Tuesday he gets in the car and goes downtown. Or tries to. The little button on the key (his car is actually that new) doesn't work. The car totally ignores it. He locked out! Then, he tries the key the old fashioned way and everything to works. He guesses that he'll have go do the manual key thing until he can get the little battery replaced in the key, as it must have gone suddenly dead.
The editor didn't get out of the car downtown, so he didn't think about the key thing until Wednesday, when he moved the car to the other side of the street. (That can get tiresome.) Key worked, and many times on Thursday, too.
So that little bit of electromagnetic radiation that it sends to the car does its thing for years, but misses a single beat on Tuesday at about noon. The troll came out from under the local wifi bridge at Ninth and M on that day.
