Eleventh Street

Eleventh Street has always seemed a bit shabby. But at least the street itself is getting made over. When that's done, and it has been expected for some time, some of the development may actually proceed. And then it will be less shabby. Maybe even nice. In our lifetimes.

Sherri Kimbel, now with Jack Evans' office, said: I went to a meeting on the resurfacing of 11th Street. They plan to start this month, and finish in July, 2009. This will cover the street from L to O Streets. They will do L-N northbound side, then N-O northbound, then L-N South and N-O south. They hope not to shut down the use of 11th Street at all (or only for short periods of time.) when it’s done, it will have a parking lane on each side, a bike lane on each side, and only one lane going north and one going south, but a left turn lane will also be added. Best of all, they are finally putting in a light at 11th and O Streets (whoo-hoo!!!) There will be an office at 1200 N Street during the construction, and Mr. Osman Mohamed will be onsite and able to answer questions. His phone number is 202-898-1720. They intend to replace some water and gas lines, and completely remove the streetcar rail that is embedded in the street.

Update:

Mike Benardo (our properly re-elected ANC guy) was at the same meeting as Sherri. He also has the website established for the project here.
