Stalag Blagden Zwei

The Convention Center will be a major player in the upcoming inauguration. If you were here four years ago, you'd know about what to expect. "About" is probably the operative word. The Secret Service is running the show and they will certainly do many things differently, but the basic security ideas should be the same, if not more stringent.

In early January, there should be a public meeting where the Secret Service, MPD, and others tell us what will happen and what is expected of the community. We are (bit) players, whether we like it or not.

Four years ago, the Blagden Alley and Naylor Court newsletter looked like this. That was done after the briefing, and the editor can't think of a whole lot to change. The one known known so far is that 4,000 policemen will be brought in from other parts of the country to help out. The cops on the street corner of Ninth and M were from Chicago. They had little respect for DC drivers, what with the locals handling of their cars in a light dusting of snow.

It is going to be interesting to see how well the temporary occupants of any apartments or townhouses rented out for the inaugural can move about. The editor guesses that with proper preparation, the renters will be able to move in and out of the security cordon (would that be a cordon bleu since a Democrat won?) about the same as the residents. But that's just a guess.
The movie The Great Escape was based on what happened (excepting Steve McQueens motorcycle ride) at Stalag Luft Drei. In 2013 we'll go drei. In 1953, Stalag 17 came out. We'll be Stalag Blagden 17 in 2079, if the Convention Center is still here.
Also:
As the editor was checking references for Stalag 17, he was led to this page, listing the other movies which came out hat year. That was a hell of a movie year.
