More on the Lockdown

The editor and maybe a couple of hundred people went to the "Walter E. Washington" Convention Center (as opposed to the other one) last night to hear Commander Larry McCoy, formerly 3D commander and now with MPD's Intelligence Fusion group, give the briefing on the upcoming security arrangements for the local inaugural festivities.

He didn't take notes, but Sara Bakker over at Life in Mount Vernon Square has this.

The Big Picture

The WaPo has this list of street closures and traffic changes. The Secret Service has this on the inauguration, along with a reference to the current map.

The Smaller Picture

The big picture is what the Post and others have. We're a small section inside of that big perimeter.

It sounds as if we can get in and out of the perimeter to some degree, with proper ID. I wouldn't push it if you don't have to, as some of the police will be from out of town and may be slightly out of synch with the current plan.

The editor's concern was for some of the local businesses, and it sounds as if both WagTime and FirstCup will be OK. FirstCup can stay open, and with 4,000 LEO's from out of town, that's good news for Alem and Simaret. And while Ninth Street is basically a No Go area, Wagtime can still probably move pets in and out through Blagden Alley.

Chill Out

Get the car off the street and out of the not quite legal spot in the alley that you usually get away with, as you won't just get a ticket, your car will get towed to someplace unknown.

With all of the restrictions, the Metro crowding and apparent closure for a day or so around here, Virginia being off limits unless you drive up to Point of Rocks and back down, it's probably best to make sure you have plenty of toilet paper and beer and DVD's and stay in. drunk Unless you have a small dog to walk. I didn't see where the Secret Service allowed for that. smile
