1218 Ninth Street

Obvious renovation is taking place at 1218 Ninth Street. So the editor checked the DCRA portion of dc.gov. He found what should be expected:

The blog software speller is having a conniption with the above, but it's fairly clear.
A bit of History
During the Summer and Fall, Mark Bjorge (and Abby Petersen) were paying close attention to 1218 and the adjoining properties, which were falling down from the inside. There had been an attempt by a speculator over the last several years to work a deal or two, but nothing happened. Then Mark got condemnation proceedings started, or at least the paperwork and initial coordination for it, and things moved.
So he checked the Real Property Sales database:

It says that Jemal bought it back in April of last year. The editor is surprised that Jemal would the property rot as it did over the Summer and Fall (and years before he bought it.) But now it looks like 1218 Ninth Street will be with us for a while.
The editor remembers the three smaller townhouses on Ninth Street just south of 1218. They were owned by someone who died and they went to the estate. The executor tried to sell (this was in the very late 1970's) but never did. This was when people thought they could get rich down here on speculation. Property values have skyrocketed since the late 1970's, but is just took twenty to twenty-five years. (Down here, you can usually predict what will happen, just not when.)
At any rate, those houses were finally burned out and torn down. Burned out by druggies either cooking crack and not following proper safety procedures, or vagrants trying to make it through that ice age which came before our current Global Warming.
The editor will add some pictures in a day or two. Check back.
Pictures!
The front of 1216 (which seems to be included in the renovation) and 1218 to the right

and the back of 1216 (note the trash in the air on its way to PG County)

and the aforementioned permits, including a Stop Work order.

And a closer view of the Stop Work Order, which must be many months old and since satisfied

The editor magnified the writing, but it's too far gone to see much without spending half an hour on it.
