Old Photos of Tenth Street

The editor came across some old photos. You know, the "film" kind. So he scanned them into modernity. They are of a fire in the 1100 block of Tenth Street, and they seem to be about March 1987. At least, that's what's printed on the back of the photo. What prompted the picture taking was a fire in unoccupied properties, which we had many of back in the day.

The fire was in 1118, next to the Clyde (the tall one), and its neighbor to the south, possibly 1116 or 1114.

Going around back we have

Not that there were two shorter structures, not just the one (1118) next to the Clyde then.

From further back and to the left we have

In the background to the left you can see what was then the Bell Atlantic buiding at Eleventh and Massachusetts. You can also see another structure at the corner of Tenth and L, now gone and replaced by one of the Quincies.

Taken a few mornings ago are the Clyde and 1118 Tenth.

One of the things over the last 30 years has been the change, from unoccupied or abandandoned to demolition or renovation. Things have been in constant flux. There's a bit more to happen around here, but maybe we're getting set for another century of stability.
