Photos, Old and New. Part I

The editor has found some old photographs and scanned them. He has been sent some old pictures, scanned, from some good folks in the 1200 block of Tenth Street. He has walked out, and tried to take the current versions of the same photographs, and will pop up the comparisons from time to time. He can't do a perfect comparison because the neighborhood now has many more trees than in the mid-80's. Well cared for trees. And given that we are in the first part of the annual global warming, these trees have leaves.

Given all that, he had this from the mid-80's

So he took this yesterday

You'll note the tree in the foreground grew up, died, and got cut down.

You'll also note that the trash cans put out have been emptied by the city, and the rest of the block is clean. Back in the old days, there weren't all that many people here so the District did not waste that much time picking up the trash. Now, it's like clockwork.

It's not visible in either picture, but none of the regular cars parked have bullet holes in the doors. When the first photo was taken, two or three of the regulars has those lead tatoos.

Also, you'll note that Wild Irish Rose was imported by the case, and there was no tree box. Tree boxes seem to be a sign of better times. Also, they present a minor hurdle to the small dogs. A fun thing to watch.
