Tree boxes are mostly potty stops for small dogs. Occasionally they also have trees in them, and sometimes the trees are watered. And, occasionally, they have other things in them, to include discarded Christmas trees and unsuccessful yard sale offerings. Here's an old parking ticket (unpaid?) on the 900 block of M Street.
