Blagden Alley and Naylor Court Jesting

Possum Alert

Saw a full grown possum hustle from the vacant lot on the 1200 block of Ninth to the back of 907 or 909 M yesterday afternoon. And in broad daylight, too.

Someone must be leaving food out overnight. If folks don't leave food out overnight, these critters might just might migrate to The Far Side and leave Blagden Alley and Naylor Court to the racoons. I can just hear Robert Mitchum intoning: "Possum, it's what's for dinner". Don't laugh, I saw such a T-shirt at Charles Town last year.

Many years ago I was working on the top floor of our house, which is about 50 feet above ground. It was raining. Maybe I heard a noise, but I looked at the window and was startled. There was this rain soaked thing looking in. Then I saw an obvious raccoon.

Called animal control the next day. They said If he was coordinated enough to climb around that high, he (presuming) wasn't rabid. But they did like apples. And yes, if you leave an apple out and a raccoon is in the neighborhood, it will be munched upon. That's a raccoon, now, not a Maine Coon Cat. They don't like apples. We tried.
