Sombody Fibbed. An Update..

The editor got a phone call from James Harper at Hensel Phelps (General Contractor on the Convention Center Hotel). His people don't think it was them. The editor is in the process is shipping all photos taken and hoping Earthlink doesn't barf at a l'il 'ol 54MB email attachment.

Harper said they didn't recognize the names on the the pictures. And he also sent

their "loading sheet" for that time.

To the editor, it doesn't match the trucks or number of trucks of last Friday morning. Harper also mentioned that they had to explain to a whole load of drivers that they weren't the City Center, which apparently has just started serious excavation. Harper was really unhappy that the bird-flipping dirver might one of "theirs".

The editor saw the trucks turn right on M south, and at least one go into the CCH site, and that certainly explains it.

The quick community-oriented response of HP was impressive.

Probably more to come. The editor wonders if the City Center thing has a community outreach capability comparable with the CCH committee and HP>

Chrystal Stowe writes: My name is Chrystal Stowe and I am the community relations coordinator for Clark/Smoot, the contractor for CityCenterDC. Your photos were forwarded to me today by Hensel Phelps. First, I want to apologize for the appalling behavior of the driver. He was rude and reprehensible. Although we have no record at this time of the offending trucking company being on the CCDC project, we have barred their trucks from our job site pending further review. We have been able to match some of the other trucks, however, to the CCDC excavation contractor. All of our subcontractors have designated routes to access CCDC that are limited to New York Avenue, 9th Street and H Street. They have been told repeatedly that no parking or idling is allowed on residential streets, and that violators will be reported to MPD. We appreciate your quick action to bring this matter to our attention, and appropriate action will be taken. Thank you and again, we apologize to you and the residents who were disturbed, inconvenienced or offended by these trucks and their operators. This was an unfortunate incident and we hope that it never happens again, but if it does, please contact me any time at cstowe@srsmoot.com. My phone number is 202/243-6688.
