Party music should be fun, engaging and make you feel good. I've been actively seeking out bands for social events and most stuff is pretty generic and boring. But if you dig a little deeper you will find out of San Diego a reggae funk band called Shaka Buku lead by Chad Scott.
If you like stuff like Stevie Wonder or offshoots like Jamiroquoi or Bob Marley or Steel Pulse or War then you may want to check out this band. Its unique and doesn't really sound exactly like anything out there. Most fantastic about this music is that its the perfect party music.
Shaka Buku Party music sets the scene perfectly with songs like "Good Times Here Today" and "Stars are in the Sky" my personal favorite. These songs remind me of the writing skills of top bands from the 70's like Stevie Wonder and Steely Dan, but with a modern feel and contemporary sound.
This band uses lots of instruments to make the party music full and vibrant, exactly what you want to elevate people and make them naturally high, but most importantly the songs for the most part all have choruses that can be sung by every one at the party. Simple yet profound choruses like "Set Yourself Free" or "Three Waves A Day" an homage to getting 3 waves everyday then the "sunshine starts to come my way" or "everything seems a o k" or "problems start to melt away".
As you can imagine, some real heavy weights produced this album, like JB Eckl (Santana, War, Ozomatli), Sebastian Arocha Mortan (Sting, Seal, Nelly Furtado, The Killers) and Pancho Tomaselli, the funky bass player from the iconic 70's band War.
Shaka Buku party music is good for just a few friends or a couple thousand friends or a nice road trip. Its my go to band and never fails to get people moving and grooving, singing and dancing. The web address if you're interested is http://www.shakabuku.com
