My Opera is closing 1st of March

Mom's stories and lessons for myself

For quite a long time, I love to hear saxophone by Tran Manh Tuan, who is very famous especially with the Vietnamese saxophone solo.

Tran Manh Tuan was born in Hanoi in to a family of stage performers. His Father, Mother, and Sister perform traditional ” Cai Luong” ( The Renovated Theater ), a theatrical art created in south Vietnam based on song and dance. Tuan began playing saxophone in 1979 and was the first Vietnamese musician to receive a scholarship from the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

He formed Orient Band in 1991, which won the gold medal in a national music competition, earning Tuan the title of “ Best Saxophonist in Vietnam “

His first solo concert was 1993 at the Opera House in Hanoi.

Tuan has releases eight solo CDs during his career and has collaborated with many well-know Vietnamese singers. His tours have taken him to Europe, Russian, China, Thailand, Singapore, and the United States.

He has performed with numerous musicians, including saxophonist Hans Dulfer and Fulvio Albano, Rob Mullins, Mike Del Frerro and John Ferguson, and Stephan Echer, Co Co York, Jennifer Ryan, Mezcal Jazz Unit group, Dana Leong, Denis Mininfield.

These successes are listed so easily but his life is not easy at all. He was the result of the marriage without love at all and he was the eight son of his family. His parents finally divorced before he was born. Since he was small, he has had to live apart from his mother and worked to earn his living. He became a good organizer for the shows and performance thanks to the time he wandered everywhere together with the performance troupe.

One of his eyes was blind when he was 13 years old. Later, two kidneys were totally spoiled. During his time in the hospital, he was totally down and he thought his life would be a dead end. Luckily, his brother gave him one kidney and music once again saved him. He still lives for music. He never gives up. He still struggles for living on earth and brings the beautiful pieces of music to his fans and audience.

Mom said Tran Manh Tuan was great. Despite his hard life, he always hopes into the future. Mom said, so many people want to kill themselves while Tran Manh Tuan always finds the meaning of life.
