Opera-ized website...

, , ,

After an exploision of traffic that was generated by guestbook-spammers I decided to ditch CMSimple from my website. This CMS-platform was quite easy to operate, but it carried a dirty piece of crappy and insecure guestbook-software with it. Since almost every CMSimple-website must carry a link to the CMSimple-website, these websites are an easy catch for guestbook-spammers. Even while I had removed the guestbook-part off the site, The guestbook-spammers kept searching for my (non-existing!) guestbook, and ate away my bandwith.

I decided to leave CMSimple and start all over with a WordPress-based website, to make it possible to give feedback on my content. I sanitized the code somewhat (I god rid of tables) and decided to Opera-ize (!) my site completely. And I am again surprized how the Opera-platform boosts the internet experience.

After some fooling around with CSS, it can decently displayed on about everything with a display (and Opera) and it even has is own Widget. Great, isn't it?

Bloody Shame...

I've tried Opera 9. Very, very very very very VERY nice browser... I've got used to it. And that was... well.. a stupid action of me...

Since 'they' have changed many key-combinations (and prefer keys above a mouse), I can't get used to opera 8.5 any more. There are little bugs in opera 9 (copy-paste malfunction in forms... not so nice when I want to copy some text from one form-field (gmail-spellcheck!!!) to another (new blog post): it just doesn't work.

Anyhow, for the time beïng, until opera 9 gets released, it will be Camino for me... zip

Opera Mini & KPN Mobile (NL)

,

Just managed to get Opera Mini up and running on my new phone-account.

FYI, settings for KPN-Mobile can be found here.

I'm not sure wether or not this works as well for IMode (with Hi). The setting is provided with Internet Everywhere. Since KPN has been doing things with m-info and other internet-like things, I do not know whether or not Internet Everywhere is activated for al users automatically or not, so if you're in doubt, call the KPN-helpdesk.

Opera mini

, ,

I found out about Opera Mini yesterday. it looks very, very promising. The shortcome of GPRS-portals of (at least) the Dutch GSM-providers seems to be tackled.

Until now I've been bothered by my Orange provider with services I didn't want (prOn, stock exchange, ringtones, all that) and I missed the ability to change my travelplans when the trains are messed-up. Off course, that service is not available in Orange World and the Public transport-planner (http://www.9292ov.nl) is not available in my default SE T610 WAP-browser.

So I kicked out the €6,-/month GPRS service months ago. Tomorrow I'll try to get the system up and running again... Opera Mini has made me very, very curious. Especially now the websides sould be shown the same way as the 'normal' opera browser (press Shift-F11).
