Spring!!! - And choosing...

, , , ...

Meteorologists state that the first of March is the first day of spring. YAHOO! And I'd seen the first flower last monday. So... I thought the time was right to take my sunglasses, swimsuit and goggles out of the closet. How wrong could I be! When I took the train back to Zwolle today, I arrived in a complete chaos. The busstation was overcrowded with buses that didn't go anywhere, the street was jammed with cars... And loads of desperate people trying to get home. What a bit snow can do! I decided to try to walk home.

Yeah, you scandinavians, you all wil laugh about this situation. The whole system is jammed because of three (3!) centimeters of snow...

But Hey.... HELLOOOOO!:eyes:

It is spring!! The season where everything should be freshly green, not white!!!

Anyhow...

Now it's time for something else... Choices.
Now the Netherlands is going the (neo?)liberal direction, things have changed (and still are changing any further). Last year we were for the first time ever allowed to buy our energy from another provider. (Before that, it were state-companies). Several months later the public health sytem has got changed. What meant that I had until er... today (!) to choose a insurance-company to cover my health. It appeared to be a tough job: make a selection of tons and tons of proposals, sometimes even different proposals from one and the same company. And since those contracts are on a year-basis, I wanted to make a wise decision. It took me four full days to make up my mind. I must say: it took some lots of time, but I'm satisfied with my decision.

So I've made enough choices for now??? Didn't think so.

Next week (7th of March), there are municipality elections. And to be honest: I havn't any clue what to vote. Will it be some local party? Or the local department of a national party? That it will be something on the left wing, thát is for sure. I guess I'll make up my mind next weekend.
Television-polls say only 57% of the Dutch will give their vote. That's a big, big shame. I guess a lot of those non-voters are just tired of choosing. Choosing abstract things as politics, insurance and so on about four times a year is a little too much, I think.
But in my opinion, when you HAVE voting-rights, you have to vote, or be silent for the next four years (until the next election). Right... I cannot be silent in Politics that long. Nobody can!

Career...
Next friday I'm going to a career-event. Never been there though. I'm curious: don't know what to expect. Loads of people in suit (including me), that's for sure. But what wil happen...? I'll try to go there for a chat with some recruiters. Especially I'll try to talk to some people outside the advocacy, to figure out what just 'ordinary companies' can mean to me whan I've got my LLM-degree somewhere between september and december.

Music
I've figured out some new artist. At least, He's new in The Netherlands. I'm talking about Gabriel Rios, A Puerto Rican guy from Gent, Belgium. He writes very nice songs, with a little bit fragile but positive sound. His breaktrough in Holland was his awesome song 'Broad day light' that was used for a Dutch orangejuice-commercial...

Maybe it is a bit soft, (probably a bit gay-ish as well), but I really like his music.

Late X-mas holidays...

, , ,

Since my X-mas days were messed-up with studying for loads of exams, I had my xmas-holidays last week.

I've had much fun! I've emptied my bank-account and bought a suit for my internship with my sister. It was awesome! I had a really good time and on the end a fantastic Hugo Boss suit. I'll get it next thursday.

And I've re-designed my website. A new layout and navigation. Not finished yet, but a lot better as it was, I think.

What's cooking?
This weekend I celebrated my birthday with my 'in-laws' (no, I'm not married, but it's clear who I mean, isn't it?). They bought together a new oven and a very good frying pan. I like cooking and my 40 years old oven, formerly used by my grandma, broke down in November. It's hard to live without an oven, if you appear to be a oven-fetisjist. I appeard to be one.. But now I can use my oven again!! Yesterday I've tried to make cake. Sounds easy, but there is always a catch... It worked out decent, but next time I've to adjust some things to make it better. Next week I'll try again...

And then that frying pan!!! WOW!!! That unit without disturbing Teflon-layer is really heavyduty. I can go really wild in the kitchen from now... nice!

Soccer for me..
Time for a confession. I really don't like soccer. At all. When it is World Cup time and Holland turns orange, i'ld like to hide and duck until it is over. Or move over to a place without cabletv. Yesterday my friend came home with a brand new GameCube. You know, that Nintendo console system. It came with a game included: Mario Smash Football. This is really no soccer whatsoever. Just forget all rules and play this insane game! I like this! It is really big fun. A new addiction is born, I'm affraid.

Refugee
I finally found the song that intrigued me a lot. It appeared to be Refugee, by Oi Va Voi. Who? Oi Va Voi. Never heard of them, but I've heard Refugee some times and I liked that. My sister had bought the CD of Oi Va Voi. It is a brilliant piece of work. Not to easy to hear, maybe, but really intriguing. It MUST come in my collection, when I have a car with radio/CD system. Because that's what it is: perfect music while driving. Oi va voi is todays recommendation :-)

Internship

,

Did I mention I'm a Law student? I didn't? Well.. I am.:sherlock:

It couldn't be that easy, could it? I visited an in-house day at a lawyers-firm, felt very comfortable there, so I wrote a letter for application and I've got an invitation for a first meeting. But that was the last meeting as well: they might use the other candidates to fulfill upcoming vacancies when they have finished their internship, but they couldn't use my specialisation in that matter: there don't appear to come any vacancies that fit into my specialisation.

So, I had to search further. I've found one or two other firms where I want to have an internship, and wrote a letter. It's hard to write the perfect letter for the one shot you have, when it comes to an application. But I tried! Lets see what will happen this time... I'm sooo curious... There is only one thing to do now: just wait...:coffee:

Let it snow...

,

Allright... This is ridiculous. The whole country has turned into one madhouse: Trains aren't going anywhere, 900+ kilometres of trafficjam...

And I'm happy as a child... The world is covered in white! In November!!! That hasn't happened in Holland for ages!

It is that I have to do other things, otherwise I was running out to the fields with my real camera, but a snapshot with my phonecam will do for now...

Just call me crazy, but today, I'm celebrating the snow :hat:
