My OperaA Reminiscence of Tet

Pum ….Pum… Pum….
It was a sound series of burning firecrackers used to be very popular to Vietnamese. On the New Year Eve, almost local households paid some money to set off firecrackers to welcome the New Year with the hope of a year full of happiness and success. Their wastes were not cleaned until a following day since it was believed that the ground covered by the red color would be a signal of luck and prosperity.
In the past, we had seen many accidents following the firecracker burnings through media. Some houses had been flammable due to a carelessness of keeping a necessary distance between the firecrackers and inflammable things. Some children were the patients of the Chinese cracker fights who just felt a deep regret about the wounds on their bodies. The fire fighting was spent much money on controlling the fire on old markets with no means of fire prevention. And others were so much more dangerous.
However I had not seen any serious issues caused by firecrackers at that time as referred above. It did not mean that the cracker related issues were not happened and the forbiddance of firecrackers has been fully disrespectful. For some reasons, this activity has now recovered in some particular places of China when a law is issued to allow the return of firecrackers including on the New Year Eve. To some extent an aspect of Vietnamese culture was lost.
A traditional activity has been replaced with a modern one. Fireworks have been burned within fifteen minutes in some main cities of Vietnam as a New Year ceremony. I myself find it no sense when a majority of people feel live pictures on the television just for the purpose of nation other than for every family. If I try to compare it with the others in some foreign countries, it looks very vapid, unattractive and meaningless whilst its budget is still unclear.
I write here to show my opinion of this issue more than for the arguments. Simply believe that our next generation will have no chance to recognize this Tet flavor at all if nothing is different.
