Iwan Toruan Sitompul, Hotel Consultant – Sales & Marketing

Iwan Sitompul, could well be considered one of the most prominent senior sales personalities in Bali and well known as an astute strategist in the travel industry for many years.
Starting with UTA French Airlines, as Districts Manager for East Indonesia stationed in Balikpapan, he was instrumental in the tourism development of that area while undertaking a successful career in international sales& marketing. After a post graduate study at the Asian Institute of Management in the Philippines, he joined Heritage International Hotel Management and Consultants in Singapore in l986 as Co-owner and Executive Director in charge of sales and strategic marketing.
He successfully coordinated and spearheaded the promotion and launching of resorts such as the Puri Kamandalu Resort in Ubud, Bali and the Marante Hotel in Toraja, Sulawesi in major worldwide trade exchanges such as ITB-Berlin, PATA Travel Marts, ATF Travex, World Travel Mart London and other promotional events like road shows and sales missions throughout the world. Being stationed In Singapore for almost 9 years; he widened extensively his sales contacts and network in local, regional and international market circles.
As a result of the political situation in Indonesia in 1997 he decided to go back to Bali to take up the challenge of marketing and launching the Vila Lumbung Boutique Hotel in Kerobokan, Bali and the Villa Ombak Hotel on the Gili Islands in Lombok. He successfully launched the Villa Ombak Hotel in international markets and was highly instrumental in putting the Gillis on the international tourism map. At the same time he initiated and spearheaded the marketing drive to make the Heritage Champlung Sari Hotel the market leader in Ubud center while launching the Payogan Villa Resort & Spa as the latest deluxe resort in Ubud.
Well established as independent sales and marketing consultant for up market properties he successfully launched The Viceroy Bali, as a top of the line boutique style resort substantially improving RevPAR by doubling their occupancy in less than a year.
Having a penchant for coaching and teaching he conducts training courses and workshops for upcoming sales professionals, and cooperates with Swiss Contact an NGO involved with tourism development programs, among others in West Flores under the auspices with the Australian and Swiss government.
Recently he has been appointed as consultant and representative Asia Pacific for the up-market boutique hotel chain K-Hotels having their office in Beverly Hills, California and representing them at major trade shows such as Asean Tourism Forum, ATF recently held in Vietnam. .

Herman Diener – Hotel Consultant
Herman Diener born and raised in the Netherlands has been active in Asia for many years. After his tertiary studies in Switzerland and the USA and various managerial positions with Intercontinental Hotels, he moved to Indonesia as the founder and director of the National Hotel Institute in Bandung, an Indonesian government project in cooperation with the Swiss government and the Lausanne hotel school. During his turn of office he established an international reputation in Hotel Management Education, by blending Indonesian, American and European educational systems for hotels, which approach is now also being practiced in Switzerland.
He joined Regent International Hotels as General Manager of Indonesia’s first deluxe hotel outside Java, Bali with the Regent of Balikpapan, which later became a Beaufort International Hotel. The hotel became famous for its awards in As a consultant to the provincial government he took a lead role in the successful implementation of a tourism development program for East Kalimantan, in close cooperation with the Tropical Institute in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
In l987 Herman Diener decided to move to Singapore where he established as managing director and co-owner Heritage International Hotel Management Consultants, Singapore. Specializing in concept development, marketing and operational development of boutique resort hotels, he acquired wide experience in hotel acquisition and negotiation of hotel management contracts from the owner’s and from the operator’s side as well as experience in dealing with national and regional governments, travel associations, advertising & public relations firms. As a result of a new government regulation in 1996 not allowing foreign companies to operate alone in Indonesia, the decision was made to merge with Griyawisata Hotel Management & Consultant – Jakarta. As Corporate Director of Operations and Development he became in charge of the company’s ambitious expansion plan to form a national hotel chain with responsibilities for the concept planning, and development of the Group’s flagship; the Hotel Tiara Medan to convert this 4 star hotel into a 5 star+ hotel by integrating a 150 all suite tower with 8 F&B outlets and spa. Being responsible for design coordination with the architects and interior designers, he created a new design concept for the hotel to ensure its market positioning as a 5 star hotel and as the premier hotel in Medan. However due to the monetary crisis the project was stopped and activities were moved to Bali.
New consultations came on stream primary the development and management of up-market boutique style resort hotels such as the Kamandalu villa resort in Ubud that was nominated as one of the best 100 Honeymoon Resorts in the world by Conde Nast Traveller, the Jati, an exclusive wellness resort, the Payogan Villa Resort and Spa and others. Scope of responsibilities included: Design coordination, operational development of concepts with layout planning, interior design as well as design guidelines for food and beverage outlets and collateral design.
More recently took part in a successful tourism development program for West Flores, NTT, as a hotel consultant for 11 hotels and 10 restaurants, financed by the Australian Government and implemented by SwissContact as the NGO.
Active on the seminar trail he has been conducting lectures on hotel development in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Jakarta.
