Umeboshi (Japanese: 梅干; literally "dried ume") are pickled umes. An ume is a type of prunus which is often called a plum but is actually more closely related to the apricot. Umeboshi are a type of tsukemono. Tsukemono are traditional Japanese style pickled foods and are very popular in Japan.

Episode of Summer Climbing Mountain No.4

, ,

The fifth day, I went back and forth between the JII-TAIRA(祖父平) and my campsite. the JII-TAIRA is the finest place along the River KUROBE.
The reason why many climber are not going to go to there is that you must do a stream climbing.
Much snow fell last winter in Japan. So I had some snow-bridges up to JII-TAIRA. One of the snow-bridge was very long(about 100m). I walked along the snow-bridge and pass under it. When I got the JII-TAIRA, I noticed that I have not my camera.

When I came back to my campsite, I felt a curious wind. It blew from the east to the west. It's seldom wind in Japanese Northern Alps of summer. I predicted a typhoon is approaching to Japan. I decided to change my plan when I watched the forecast of that night at MITSUMATA hut.
The early morning of next day, I began to climb down a mountain.
On the way,I stared at the beautiful morning glow for a while.

Episode of Summer Climbing Mountain No.3

, , ,

In the third day, on the way back from Mt.SUISHO, I selected to walk along the source of River KUROBE.
When I went down to IWAKOKE pass, I found a butterfly, "KOHIODOSHI(コヒオドシ)"(Mountain Tortoiseshell). "KOHIODOSHI" is one of the High Elevation Butterflies. The High Elevation Butterflies which reside in Japan are 14 kinds.
I murmured "Stand still !!" However "KOHIODOSHI" flew away. I took a photo of "KOHIODOSHI" but, it was out of focus.

This day, I witnessed some troubles.

1/
A middle-aged man walked with unsteady steps. His partner said "Even if you sleep enough, you will be beyond recovery, perhaps." They went to a clinic added to a main mountain hut in a summer season. It's free. After a while, a emergency helicopter of the police carried them to a hospital. Japan has not a mountain rescue. When a doctor or owner of hut request a emergency helicopter to a police, it fly direct to there.
I heard "He had difficult in breathing."

2/
A middle-aged woman went to a clinic. When she appeared again, she had a cast on her right forearm.

After passing Mt.WASHIBA, I walked down along the source of River KUROBE. There were a lot of flowers, Potentilla matsumurae(Scientific name), Anemone narcissiflora var. nipponica(Scientific name), Picris hieracioides ssp. kamtschatica(Scientific name) etc.

ミヤマキンバイ Potentilla matsumurae(Scientific name)

ハクサンイチゲ Anemone narcissiflora var. nipponica(Scientific name)

ミヤマコウゾリナ Picris hieracioides ssp. kamtschatica(Scientific name)

The third day, I went back and forth between the MITUMATA campsite and Mt.SUISHO. After having climbed Mt.WASHIBA, I repeated ups and downs, and I got the peak of Mt.SUISHO. There were also a wonderful panorama of Japanese Northern Alps. If you wish to see the panorama from this peak, please access HERE. This link is one of the contents in my site and it is a FLASH movie. Please download MACROMEDIA FLASH PLAYER if it don't display. These FLASH movies(index page is HERE) are a digital map which was given 3-D effect.

Mt.SUISHO was once a quiet mountain. Now it became popularity and noisy. I love a quiet mountain.

I came back to my campsite and wanted to buy a beverage at the MITUMATA hut, but there was no goods. A woman staff said "All kinds of beverages are almost out of stock." 264 climber stayed this hut last night. The hut capacity is 80. Because climbing of middle age and old age group is very popular now in Japan. A lot of climber had bought most beverages. So I couldn't buy any beverage.

Episode of Summer Climbing Mountain

, ,

I climbed the Japanese Northern Alps from August 11 to 17.
My climbing style is camping and alone.
In the early morning of first day, I heard a sound of thunder faraway. I began to walk through drizzling but, it has stopped soon. It began to clear.
I got the YUMIORE pass. When I took a rest and had a grapefruit, the helicopter which cover the climbing mountain in summer hovered right under my nose. However, I concentrated on the eating.

When I got the SUGOROKU campsite, and there is the SUGOROKU hut, clouds were hanging low. I felt a premonition of thunderstorm. When I had a cake-set, cheese-cake and coffee(700\=ab.6$), suddenly it began to thunderstorm. I fled to the hut to escape the thunderstorm. However, I didn't forget to take a mouthful of the cake-set.

A self-portrait at the SUGOROKU campsite. I got it taken against Mount WASHIBA.

Next day, after I watched the sunrise at the SUGOROKU campsite, I started to walk for the WASHIBA pass. There is the MITUMATA hut and campsite. I strolled while taking a photo and I had a grapefruit in a rest. After I got the WASHIBA pass and pitched my tent, I climbed Mount WASHIBA. There was a wonderful panorama of the Japanese Northern Alps.
