You've Been In Japan Too Long When...

,

There are lot of foreigner in Japan.
When will the foreigners feel that I was too much in Japan for a long time?
I came across the web page that collected such things.

You've Been In Japan Too Long When...

...you notice you've forgotten how to tie shoelaces.
...you rush onto an escalator, and just stand there.
...you find yourself bowing while you talk on the phone.
...you think US$17 isn't such a bad price for a new paperback.
...you don't hesitate to put a $10 note into a vending machine.
...when you are talking on the telephone to your parents and your father says, "Why are you interrupting my explanation with grunts?"
...you see a gaijin get on the train and think "Wow, it's a gaijin!"
...you start thinking can coffee tastes good.
...when you wait for the first day of summer to wear short sleeve dress shirts.
...when the first option you buy for your car is a TV set.
...you don't think it unusual for a truck to play "It's a Small World" when backing up.
...you really enjoy corn soup with your Big Mac.
...you think the opposite of red is white.
...you leave your expensive bottle of Royal Salute with a sleazy barkeeper and don't worry.

From a Japanese standpoint:
...the foreigner eat a rice and a miso-soup of all-you-can-eat breakfast in a hotel.
(I always eat a cup of coffee and a piece of bread. I'm Japanese. p: )

04:00
I left for Mt.Mitumatarenge(三俣蓮華岳) to watch the sunrise.

5:02
Sunrise
06:20
I returned to my camp. Took down my tent and took a break for a while. I had a porridge with "Umeboshi(梅干)" for a breakfast.

Umeboshi (Japanese: 梅干; literally "dried ume") are pickled umes. An ume is a type of prunus which is often called a plum but is actually more closely related to the apricot. Umeboshi are a type of tsukemono. Tsukemono are traditional Japanese style pickled foods and are very popular in Japan.

07:30
I left for a "Kurobegoro(黒部五郎)" campsite. There are two way for Kurobegoro campsite. One is a pass via the top of Mt.Mitumatarenge(三俣蓮華岳). Another is a traverse pass. I took the traverse pass. It is easier than another pass. I walked while taking the photograph on the way.

10:20
I got to the Kurobegoro campsite. There is a hut, called "Kurobegoro-koya(黒部五郎小舎)". this is a tiny and a pretty hut. I took it easy all day. Dinner of that day was a vacuum-packed "Oden" again.

On that day, I carried out my favourite plan -- go to "Takamaga-hara Onsen(高天原温泉)" and back.

04:00
I left for "Takamaga-hara(高天原)".

06:30
I got to "Iwakoke-nokkoshi(岩苔乗越)". This is a crossing climbing pass. I climbed a downhill pass for Takamaga-hara in hurry. Because I only concerned with the Onsen. I found a colony of yellowish flowers around "Haimatsu(ハイマツ)" from far away. Haimatsu is a dwarf stone pine. I visited "Suisho-ike(水晶池)" on the way. It's a beautiful pond.

08:15
I got to Takamaga-hara. I spent 1 hour 45 minutes(2 hours 30 minutes as a course time) from Iwakoke-nokkoshi to Takamaga-hara. Takamaga-hara is a high moors. There is a old hut, called "Takamaga-hara-sanso(高天原山荘)". I recently heard that their dinner was improved.

I took the Onsen for 40 minutes. The color of the Onsen is milky white. I refreshed myself by the Onsen.

09:50
I left Takamaga-hara. However, I lost my vigor for climbing because I didn't want to sweat a bit. I loved a shade of the forest. I didn't want a blazing sun.
13:20
I returned to Iwakoke-nokkoshi. I spent 3 hours 30 minutes(3 hours as a course time). I had a grapefruit while taking a break.
I left at 13:30.
I saw many beautiful flowers while climbing a downhill along the River Kurobe.
14:40
I returned to my camp.

I had a vacuum-packed "Oden(おでん)" for dinner. Oden is a Japanese hotchpotch. If you are interested in Oden, please access HERE.

I left at 06:10.
I climbed with a party who took a break together from here to "Sugoroku(双六)". They were students for part-time job at a clinic, which is set up during summer season. It's free.

08:20
I got to "Kagami-taira(鏡平)". There is a hut, called "Kagami-taira-sanso(鏡平山荘)". The hut doesn't have enogh water. So, there is a charge for water and toilet. Its special product is a "Kaki-gori(カキ氷)". Kaki-gori is a shaved ice with syrup on the top. Of course, I had a shaved ice with lemon syrup(500¥=ab.5US$).
I left at 08:50.

09:50

One of the students who climbed with me on the way said that they will work for part-time job at this clinic. I love this campsite because of a beautiful view. I was tired because I carried 30kg. I slept for a while after set up my tent. I had a vacuum-packed meatball for dinner. In this night, a lot of stars shot across the sky, Perseid Meteor Shower.

06:00
I left my home.

06:38
I got on a train for "Maibara(米原)" at "Osaka(大阪)" station.
This train was jammed with young people. Now in Japan, schools are closed for summer vacation.A lot of students were traveling with discount ticket, called "Seisyun18(青春18)."
I changed "limited express Shirasagi 2" at Maibara station. "Shirasagi" meant an egret.
I changed "limited express Hida 1" at "Gifu(岐阜)" station. "Hida" is a name with an old Gifu Prefecture northern part.

10:52
I arrived at "Takayama(高山)". There were a lot of foreign tourists.

Hida-Takayama has preserved the feeling of a castle town, apparent by its history-filled streets. With the latticed bay windows and linked eaves of merchants' houses in Sanmachi Suji, the enduring historical temples and shrines of Higashiyama, and the reproduction of Hida's traditional mountain farming villages of sloped-roof houses at Hida Folk Village, the town itself could be called a sightseeing spot. The Takayama festival held in spring and fall is known as one of the three most beautiful festivals of Japan (the other two are the Gion Festival of Kyoto and the Chichibu Night Festival of Saitama Prefecture). Ornate floats crafted by Hida artisans are pulled around, and Takayama becomes truly energetic. When visiting Takayama, you can certainly savor the arts and culture of traditional craftsmen while enjoying the feel of the ancient city.

If you are interested in Takayama, access HERE and then choose the language that you can read. This site supports English, Chinese, Korea, French, German, Espanol, Portuguese, Itarian and Russian.

11:10
I got on the bus for "Shin-Hotaka(新穂高)". I had reserved a seet on the bus.
The image below is Mt.Kasagatake(笠ヶ岳) which I watched from Shin-Hotaka bus stop.

12:30
I got to Shin-Hotaka. There is an Onsen(hot spring) resort, and there are a lot of Japanese-style hotels with Onsen.

Oku Hida Hot Springs Village
The Oku Hida Hot Springs Village is the collective name for five scattered hot spring resorts. Immediately below the Northern Alps, the Shin-Hotaka Hot Springs are surrounded by nature on a grand scale. The Tochio Hot Springs, which serve as a “base point” of the village, have a homely atmosphere. Located in the center of Oku Hida, the Shin-Hirayu Hot Springs are flourishing. The Fukuji Hot Springs have a retrospective and nostalgic atmosphere. Having been prosperous throughout its long history, the Hirayu Hot Springs have an air of elegance. In this area, you can feel the clear air with your skin, listen to the murmurs of the rivers, and extend your arms and legs fully in a wide open-air bath, bringing a deep sense of relaxation.

After I wear sunscreen on my face and arms, I left for "Wasabi-taira(ワサビ平)" campsite at 12:50

14:00
I got to Wasabi-taira. There is a hut, called "Wasabi-taira-koya(ワサビ平小屋)". I set up my tent and had a vacuum-packed hamburger steak for dinner.
