A day in the life of Chris Jordan

oh I do like to be beside the seaside.

The weather was a bit crap in the morning yesterday so we sort of moped around doing nothing, then come dinner it started to get warm. So jump in the car and headed off for Sunday lunch in a pub. True to form we just went "that way".. until we came across a place that looked nice. We ended up new Chelmsford after driving through some lovely countryside. The Sat Nav is great, just click shortest route instead of quickest and it takes down all the little country lanes.

Clacton next and we spent the afternoon walking down the front, playing on the dodgems, horse racing and eating candy floss. It is nice to be able to be a kid again

A trip down the Thames

As it was forecast for 25 degrees yesterday we headed into the centre of london for a look around. I have never done one of the river cruises and so Lucy took me down river to Greenwich. An absolutely brilliant trip, you get to see london from a different angle. It was very interesting to see all the old wharehouses and docks, aswell as your usual tourist buildings such as the eye, and St Pauls.

Greenwich is beautiful. We got off the ferry and being dinner time headed for some food. I can highly recommend Desperados as a place to eat, everything from Tapas to burgers, all very well cooked and with fast and friendly service.

We missed seeing the observatory as we stopped at Greenwich park for a sit in the sun, and suddenly it was tea time, so it was just closing as we got there. A shame but not a problem, we wandered down the old foot tunnel under the Thames.. bit scary walking under the Thames ina tunnel dug over 100 years ago, and came back into town on the DLR. Quick stop at covent garden for drinks and then home.

another fab day out

The boats sunk...

We went looking at a boat to live on last weekend. We found the almost perfect one. Just down the road from my work, only a few miles from Imogens school, sited on a stunning marina where you can wake up with ducks looking in though your window. 73 feet long she has 2 bedrooms and was a good size aswell and all a snip at 125,000. Nice cheap way to live as there is no way we will be able to ever get a house.

Sounds good eh?.. the problem is that marine mortgages are even more difficult to get than normal ones.. mainly cos its a lot easier to drive off and vanish in a boat than a house. Unfortunately as I have only been back in the country less than a year there is no way they will consider me so we have been turned down :frown:.

Its starting to look like the only way we will ever be able to live is to move back abroad, this country is just too expensive to live. I have no idea how anyone ever gets a house these days.

Easter..

Well the Easter period is over with..

Its been good, went and saw quite a few places and got away for a few days.

First weekend we went over to Andover to the Hawk sanctuary had a bit of a mooch round and then decided to book ourselves on the "fly your own Hawk day", unfortunately Imogen is too young for the full day, but they do a junior half day, so she will get in to have a close look at the birds and hopefully get to fly a few.

Next stop Stonehenge. I have driven past it more than a few times, but never actually bothered to stop and look... I now know why... boring.. its like Salford, just a pile of old rocks.. bit of a nice sunset but that was about it.

Last weekend we had a few days alone and so decided to go for a picnic.. one of those sort of... lets go that way and see what we find. 550 miles and 2 days later we got home. We just headed north until we found a lovely spot just by a river, ducks, sunshine and all the romantic stuff, sat down, made a few sarnies and opened a bottle of wine. We spent a few hours just nicely chilled in the sun. As we were northwards I phoned Star to see what she was up too, and went up there for the night. On the way we passed an otter sanctuary and had a quick walk round it. Absolutely brilliant just wandering round the peak district, spotting deer and stuff.

We got into Birkenhead just after tea, quick change and then off out to see a Van Halen tribute band. Much drink later and suddenly it was 4am.

Lucy has never really seen much of Wales so we came the scenic route back through the Snowdonia national park. We could have not picked a better day. 25 degrees and not a cloud in site as we just meandered our way through the mountains and across to the west coast. We managed to get to the beach just a the sea mist rolled in and it dropped to 12 degrees. Amazingly as soon as we got a few miles back inland it lifted and return to 20 degrees. Fed some seagulls, found a dead shark on the beach, then the long drive back.

It has been a good week, we have really enjoyed it. We managed a pub tea with Imogen before we had to drop her off back to school, but its a short week and so we get to see her again in just 4 days. Big panic now as to find something to do . Whats good is Imogen has finally discovered its ok to tell us that where we take her is rubbish. That way we never take her back to somewhere she does not enjoy.

First week back

Well thats the first week over with back at the old job... nothings changed apart from some of the contracts. The car is a bit crap.. a Renault Megane.. its French and looks very gay apart from which the boot is the size of a wallet, not the best for a man that carries a lot of computers and printers about but I get one of the new Passats in aweek or 2 so it will do. The company fuel card is a bonus.. saves us a fortune in petrol.

Off to Barcelona at the end of next week for my birthday.. ITs Lucias home town nearly, so I get the guided tour.

the dreaded W word

Finally I am getting somewhere with work. The HGV driving I have been doing is ok, if I little brain dead. But since Christmas it has been getting less and less, and as the new government tax on people who run their own company comes into force 6 April it means I will loose another £50 a week in stealth tax.. the wage slowly goes.

I called an old mate of mine from my last computer job a few weeks ago and we had a chat about old times etc, then just before I went away he called me and asked if I fancied popping across to see him. I duly turned up and was offered a job/car/phone/laptop and fuel card on the spot. So on the spot I drove the car home!! The money is not awesome but its regular, and apart from being stung for the company car it should work out ok.. I am not that happy about going back to the rat race, but I do not have a lot of choice at the moment.
