Way to go!!!

,

Last night Inter won the Milan derby. There was a kind of all-star feel to the game, with two of my favourite skippers scored. There was an all-star feel to the game with the presence of Maldini and Nesta. Wacky Materazzi entertained us by getting a red card just after he scored...as you can imagine it was a gripping game all the way to the end.

Hi, how was your weekend?

First of all, congratulations for Opera Community growing over 500,000 members!
and thanks for choosing Ulie as cool members. She is really happy!

Today, after reading Peter's blog, we went for a little drive to find signs of autumn this side of England. It was a nice warm sunny day. Less than a week to go til October, but it still felt like summer. Odd weather.
You can find the results here.

Richard Hammond is said to be recovering well. Here is another programme he hosts, Brainiac.
You can find some of the past highlights here.
That and TopGear are my son's favourite programmes, whereas Ulie loves America's Next Top Models.
Tonight I won the right for choosing channels, and am watching Serie A Inter Milan vs Chievo for Crespo. :D

Have a nice week!

What it takes

, ,

Hi, how was your week?

For me, the worst week - work-wise- is finally over (I hope). I had been working like a machine, workload was too much to cope alone and I hated it. Well, to be precise, I didn't like myself for feeling unable to do anything in my time off work. I was too tired to call up friends for chat, or planning a day out or anything, so a couple of friends called me for social chat to cut me off from this negative psychological mindset and I finally got back to reality...

I am sad that the World Cup will finally be over this weekend. I really had a lot of excitement, encouragement and joy from watching the games. This year I was watching those games from totally different perspective. I was constantly thinking what it takes for a player to perform the best, to show his quality under pressure and all...During my school years I grew up in fairly competitive environment, but I got through purely by luck. I know what I can and cannot do, and I have always been attracted to people who can do what I cannot even think of doing, or try hard but failed and so on. Basically those people are focused, bold and put it simply, able. I also fall in love when I see talent.

I used to love to see Sampras coping with pressure, as I know someway or the other he could make it happen, change the flow of the game, wave the magic wand and ....voila! He could turn the match upside down even from he was losing heavily, whereas others simply give in to their weakness or lose concentration and lose in straight sets. He was truly brilliant.

Anyway, this year I was more attracted to the World Cup than Wimbledon, as I found it more exciting as it involved so many variable factors to bring a team to win. In tennis, you can control your game if you could control your emotions, and you can always get a ball, but in football, you may or may not touch the ball even if you play 90 minutes. There are so many things you cannot control at your will and all, but you are there to win....mm....

So, what does it take for a player to perform, to prove to the world what he is worth? I want to know the answer, but I wonder if I ever will...

To wrap-up, here are the links to my football treasure chest. Hope you enjoy as much as I did.

Down the memory lane...

Hi. Hope you were having a nice weekend.

Did you watch Argentina vs Mexico last night? It was by far one of the greatest matches of World Cup 2006. Being a Crespo fan, I was secretly hoping a penalty shootout, but Rodriguez's magnificent shoot in the extra time stopped it. Mexico was brilliant, too!

This afternoon England's match against Ecuador is on, and I was sorting out books/cds/videos, etc, while a friend came around and brought me some stuff including a Japanese magazine. While doing so, I found some old pictures so I took photographs of them and put it in my album(haha, I don't have a scanner). I have hopped to see friends homepages, and Angex's entry reminded me of the old songs I used to like, so I searched You tube and found this.

Come to think of it, most of my Opera friends were in primary school when the song was released...Anyway I was pleased to find that not only they are still around, they have released a new album and doing a tour! .
I look back 80's favourably, probably because there weren't many stupid crimes then...

For England's match, I am looking forward to see goals from Gerrard and Lampard, as well as sharp defense from Terry and Ferdinand....Keep fingers crossed.

Bye bye and thank you

Hi.

Just finished watching this game. Tonight Japan played really well, though we couldn't really make it to the last 16....Kawaguchi (GK) was razor sharp in the first half and Tamada scored out of blue so that they let us start believing this time a miracle could happen..However, the dream didn't last long. It was Ronaldo who smashed it with a goal just before the half-time. After the half time, it was like a slaughterhouse....
This was the way I felt.

After witnessing Ronaldo scoring two goals, I remembered the last World Cup in 2002, when Ronaldo became so popular with Japanese fans and was given a nickname 'Daigoro' because of the weird haircut he was sporting then. For those of you who do not know what Daigoro is, that is the baby in the pram in the above video, Kozure Okami (meaning Samurai with a child).

Who said Ronaldo was not fit enought to be in the squad??? Japan stood no chance, Brazil was like...they waited until the 2nd half to play a politically correct game. It was a class act, no doubt about that.

Anyway, thank you Gico Japan for showing the fighting spirits at last. I feel REALLY sorry for Takahara and Yanagisawa, who seemed to have all the bad luck and got slagged, though they were making their best efforts. I was happy to see Maki in the game, though he couldn't score as I wished.

Arigato to Japan's world cup team

Thanks hhc2006 and Kiorz for the videos. Ronaldo's picture was borrowed from BBC Sports page.

Architecture week and a special game

, , , ...

Hi, how was your day?

In the past week I was so carried away with World Cup fever, I had forgotten about my other passion...architecture. From the 16th to 25th this month is Architecture Week in the United Kingdom, and there have been a number of events are held nationally. If you live in the U.K.,
you may click the above link and find out about what's on in your area, or get some information on the buildings in your area. The attached guide seems quite useful if you are doing some sightseeing in London.

Anyway, tonight there will be a a very important game, starting from 8pm. It is against Sweden! I like Ibrahimovic and Larsson very much, but I am supporting England, so there is a dilemma here. What will be the score where both England and Sweden can proceed to the 2nd round, and I can also see Zlatan/Larsson score goals without causing any damage to England?
 I like watching football, to be honest, I don't know technical stuff like offside and all. p:

I wonder if I will be feeling great   ,
fed up :irked::eyes: :ko:,
or a bit melancholic :bandit:  ???

Thanks pyonchan1804, kzaxeringer and mako820 for the videos.

What a game!!!

It was another lovely sunny day in England. How was yours?

I was watching Italy's game against the USA tonight, but what a dramatic game it was! I was glued to the screen, as it suddenly became impossible to predict what was going to happen next.

I like Azzurris and I was hoping an easy win for them tonight (sorry for USA fans), but their own goal and De Rossi's unnecessary elbow changed all that. The latter casted bad karma and negative repercussions for Azzurris - a sight of blood streaming down on McBride's cheeks turned the game upside down. It was an extraordinary game to say the least, even though the USA put up a good fight, the only player who could really be proud being in the game must be Keller, the goal keeper for the USA. He was calm and collected, proved his strength all along. The USA team, though with some questionable defence plays fought really well - much better than the first game. I just wish Japan can show similar collective plays tomorrow.

Tomorrow is a father's day. Kids are going to see The Fast and Furious - Tokyo Drift with their father. I will be watching Japan's game against Croatia.

Goosebumps, goosebumps

, , , ...

Hi, thanks for stopping by.

クレスポ最高!!!

I couldn't wipe smiles off my face this afternoon because I heard of this. Argentine's doing great in the WC so far, and gave me goosebumps many times with awesome plays all over.

 I found this excellent video.
Thanks Loscarfunky!

I wonder similar things would happen to Japan when they face Brazil on the 22nd. I think winning that game would be like winning a lottery, so I just hope they play their best and enjoy playing against the star-studded team. Before then, they face Croatia this coming Sunday, and there is a glimmer of hope that Japan might win. Really they have no choice but to win this game as drawing the game is not good enought to proceed to the second round. Just looking at the past game(s), Croatia is very strong so even drawing the game maybe difficult for Japan unless they come back focused with better game strategy. Scary, really, but I really want to see them in the second round. Could they make it??? I have to pray hard...

Anyway, here is a quick reminder. Yamato Damacy released another episode (No.26). This time it is a bit different so please click the link and find out.

Congratulations for England and Sweden!

, ,

They both won!!!

Our company had a big function, inviting clients. I bet they enjoyed the game!

Sweden's match was rather frustrating, though I am happy that they won. I am disappointed just because Zlatan wasn't performing well, failing to make contacts with the ball many times and got replaced without playing full game. 4 years ago he was so brilliant playing alongside Larsson. As it is likely to be Larsson's last WC, I just wish them play better in their next match against England!

Lot of things happening this week, so I have completely missed out on tennis (Stella Artois championship). I heard that Murray was out yesterday. I guess he really needs to grow up and learn to control his frustrations. I had seen many players grew up on court and come back a lot stronger mentally and physically. Typical of those are Becker and Ivanisevic. Murray has great skills and techniques, so when improved mentally he could be a good contender for championship.

I am having early night tonight. Tomorrow's highlight for me is Argentine's game.
I am hoping I could see some wonderful plays like this.

Thanks tyler 31323 for the video. Good night

Aaagh....Japan lost its first game against Australia. I think So much of Japan's hope on WC had rested on this special game, as it was thought to offer the only chance of winning in the group games. Too bad with the rest of group so strong (Brazil and Croatia), you cannot blame us for expecting too much from the game against a country much less know for football.

I was at work when the game was on. Trading was quiet as a number of our clients were either gone to Germany to support the team, or off work to watch the game at home or elsewhere on bigger screens. One of my colleagues found out she could actually watch the game via ITV internet and as Japan scored the first goal, all of a sudden business almost ceased as everyone was cheering and shouting.

Unfortunately for us poor translators have tight deadlines, so we couldn't watch the game on screen, but could hear what happened. Congratulations, Australia and Australians. You were too good to be true (the analyst I work for is an Australian and she looked beamed after the much). I just only wished Gico replaced Nakamura with Maki, when he called out to replace Yanagisawa with Ono. I really don't understand why he did that...

...Here is what Maki can do if he is given a chance...

Anyway, I enjoyed Italy's game against Ghana. The goal by Pirlo was beautiful. It really was.
