Autumn term started...

, ,

Hi, how's your weekend?

The 2nd term for Japanese Saturday school (Hoshuko) started today, and it was my turn to help/accompany/children on the way to/from the school on the bus. It was exceptionally chilly day.

Yesterday my two children were in a bit of a panic to finish their homeworks. We enjoyed our holidays to the full, and though it worked wonders for stimulating motivation to study the language, it wasn't enough to move my 'do-everything-at-the-last-minute son'. He had ignored my open offers to help him earlier during the summer holiday, and as a result I was standing firm not to overextend my arms and help him out of the mess. I could be really nice and do all his homework without involving him and we all could have felt a lot better, but I didn't. I could see him expecting me playing Doraemon, but I am not Doraemon. I stood firm, and they each went to their own rooms.

This morning, I woke up to find this piece of paper on the desk.

...and on the back of the sheet,

Now he got his sister as a substitute Doraemon!!!

What can I do to make our Nobita to plan and take control??? p:uzzled:

Anyway, here is a clip of Miracle Nanachan I found tonight. Hope you like it.

Yamato damacy (大和魂) - a way forward?

, ,

Hi, their latest episode is out on Google Video.

This time Jesii and Rahman interview an American lawyer/author called Debito Arudou who became a Japanese citizen after 18 years of living there. I think it is informative for someone contemplating living there...

I thought it funny how he chose the Kanji to spell his name. :D

Interesting link found on the internet...

Hi. Looks like this week is busier than the last one.
In case I won't be able to update, here are some interesting link I found today via Video Google. I hope you will find these interesting...

Links for にほんごのべんきょう(for studying Japanese language)

Yamato Damacy (大和魂)

Here you can find weekly video programmes, hosted by Rahman and Jeshii, who are both fluent Japanese speakers. It is also interesting to know what seems topical/interesting for foreigners ... If you like what you see, you can also use the following link to play the series to date back to back...

Student video (parody of once famous TV programme called Iron Chef)

Compared to Yamato Damacy, students here are a lot less fluent - i.e. beginners' level and scripts can be edited not because they don't make sense but to be perfect. They made this parody of (once famous)Japanese TV programme called 料理の鉄人 (The Iron Chef).
I liked the video as it reminds me of the fact that leaning should be FUN and spontaneous to be effective.

Wallpaper magazine

I love good design - This is a magazine I found in the newsagent the other day. February issues features 'Best of 2006'.
The best new building is The viaduct designed by Fosters and Partners.

I wish I could drive there, but realistically I won't and cannot. I can only drive locally.:faint: SAD. I don't think you can walk across, but it looks beautiful...

Simple words mean a lot...

, ,

 Hi, everyone.

Today I felt like writing a blog in English - first time since I started to use Opera!
What prompted me, well, was the jokes my colleague sent me today.
She occasionally sends me jokes she found over the internet.
I appreciate this, as it often get me through work blues.
The one she got me today was excellent so I just like to share them with you.
What do you think of these??? :right:

Here we go...

FINE
This is the word women use to end an argument when they feel they are right and you need to shut up. Never use "fine" to describe how a woman looks - this will cause you to have one of those arguments.

FIVE MINUTES
This is half an hour. It is equivalent to the five minutes that your football game is going to last before you take out the trash, so it's an even trade.

NOTHING
This means "something," and you should be on your toes. "Nothing" is usually used to describe the feeling a woman has of wanting to turn you inside out, upside down, and backwards. "Nothing" usually signifies an argument that will last "Five Minutes" and end with "Fine"

GO AHEAD (With Raised Eyebrows)
This is a dare. One that will result in a woman getting upset over "Nothing" and will end with the word "Fine"

GO AHEAD (Normal Eyebrows)
This means "I give up" or "do what you want because I don't care" You will get a "Raised Eyebrow Go Ahead" in just a few minutes, followed by "Nothing" and "Fine" and she will talk to you in about "Five Minutes" when she cools off.

LOUD SIGH
This is not actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A "Loud Sigh" means she thinks you are an idiot at that moment, and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you over "Nothing"

SOFT SIGH
Again, not a word, but a non-verbal statement. "Soft Sighs" mean that she is content. Your best bet is to not move or breathe, and she will stay content.

THAT'S OKAY
This is one of the most dangerous statements that a woman can make to a man. "That's Okay" means that she wants to think long and hard before paying you back for whatever it is that you have done. "That's Okay" is often used with the word "Fine" and in conjunction with a "Raised Eyebrow."

GO AHEAD!
At some point in the near future, you are going to be in some mighty big trouble.

PLEASE DO
This is not a statement, it is an offer. A woman is giving you the chance to come up with whatever excuse or reason you have for doing whatever it is that you have done. You have a fair chance with the truth, so be careful and you shouldn't get a "That's Okay"

THANKS
A woman is thanking you. Do not faint. Just say you're welcome.

THANKS A LOT
This is much different from "Thanks." A woman will say, "Thanks A Lot" when she is really ticked off at you. It signifies that you have offended her in some callous way, and will be followed by the "Loud Sigh." Be careful not to ask what is wrong after the "Loud Sigh," as she will only tell you "Nothing"

Well, some of these I hear my children use, some with 'dashing upstairs and shutting
closing the door loudly' action. Now I feel a little bit cleverer - at least I have better
sense of what's going on when only little words are uttered.
If you know any others, please let me know...

PS. The other day I bought this little Reisenthel bag. I really like it.
I love well designed stuff. If you know 'good design' items, whether they are
household items, stationeries or whatever, please let me know.
The top I bought at Adolfo Dominguez is very nice, too.
