Walid Michelen, MD


Walid Michelen migrated with his family from the Dominican Republic when he was 11 years old. He attended Fordham Preparatory High School and Lehmann College where he received his B.A. in Political Science. He obtained his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College. He trained in primary care internal medicine at Montefiore Hospital’s Residency Program in Social Medicine and completed a fellowship in Rheumatology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Since then he has held a number of positions including Director of Residency Training in Internal Medicine at Bronx Lebanon Hospital, Medical Director of North Central Bronx Hospital, Senior Vice-President for the South Manhattan Health Network, which includes Bellevue Hospital, Executive Director of Metro Plus Health Plan, Chief Medical Officer for the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC), Vice-President of Community Health at New York Presbyterian Hospital and the Chief of Staff and Director of Business Development and Grants for HHC’s Generations Plus/Northern Manhattan Health Network, which is comprised of Harlem, and Lincoln hospitals as well as the Segundo Ruiz Belvis, Morrisania Diagnostic and Treatment Centers and the Renaissance Healthcare Network. He is currently the CEO/CMO of HHC’s Gotham Health. Gotham Health has over 140,000 patients and more than 700,000 visits a year. It is the largest health center in New York State and one of the largest in the country.


In his spare time Dr. Michelen participates in a number of community activities. He was the Chair of the Board of Directors for Alianza Domincana, the largest community-based organization serving Dominicans in the United States. He currently serves as the Chair of the Nasry Michelen Daycare Center. In addition he is a board member and Treasurer of Latinos for National Health Insurance and is a board member of the US Branch of the Escuelas de Las Americas de Medicine, located in Cuba.

Breve Biografia de Rafael Nuñez

Is the Vice President of Disla Clinical Research Corporation, also known as Disla Research Institute, a company he co-owns with his brother Dr. Rene Nunez. The focus of this company is to impart courses that help foreign medical professionals work in the pharmaceutical industry. Rafael is in charge of the language development division and has put together a Basic English Conversational course that is presently being developed and imparted in NY, NJ and PA with the help and support of AHPSI. With the Basic English Conversational course Rafael is helping medical professionals improve their speaking and understanding of the English language, which is an important part of their studies to pass tests such as the US Medical License Exam (USMLE) and to use in their everyday life.


Rafael Nuñez, autor del libro: “Being a Man in a 2k+ Century


As an author Rafael published his first book “Being a Man in a 2k+ Century” in 2010, which can be found at www.2kpluscentury.com. His extensive background and direct interaction with people give him a strong understanding of the world around him, which he uses to write about situations that occur in everyday life. He also demonstrates a great command of the English language in his writing and his English courses. Rafael has vast experience in the language field. From 2010 through 2012, he imparted his Basic English Conversational course in the Dominican Republic. He opened the doors of his first institute in 1998, where hundreds of students acquired certificates in Basic Conversational English and Computer use. He attended Rutgers University with a mayor in computer science and a minor in writing.

Presently Rafael also works in Quality Assurance at Sanofi Aventis following his career in the pharmaceutical field. He joined the pharmaceutical field in 2005 starting as a Scientific Affairs Specialist in Johnson and Johnson, where he worked for five years. In 2004, Rafael graduated as a nurse from FCTI in St. Augustine, Florida and worked at an Alzheimer’s unit in Cypress Village as a charge nurse.


Rafael is married with a new born child and has two wonderful teenagers from a prior marriage. He was born in Bronx, New York and was culturally fortunate to grow up traveling between the United States and the Dominican Republic.

La Dra.Luz es nativa de Bogota colombia, graduada de la prestigiosa Pontificia Universidad Javeriana perteneciente a la orden de los Jesuistas ,en Bogotá Colombia, Graduandose de Doctora en Odontologia Año 1980.

En su primeros años de ejercicio trabajo para el ejercito Nacional de Colombia, y para el sistema nacional de salud de Colombia.

La Dra.Cuestas, debido a la tensa situacion politica, la cual imperaba en ese momento,en su pais, de Colombia, se vio en la necesidad de aplicar para un status de Asilo politico en USA, luego de vencer la barrera del idioma, trabajar como asistente dental, y profesora de educacion basica,en New York, pudo ingresar al programa de Odontologia, de NYU, Donde logró convalidar de nuevo su titulo de Odontologia.

Obteniendo licencia para practicar Odontologia en ls Estados de New York, Pennsyvania, La Florida ,Connecticut .

La Dra.Cuestas, siempre ha sido pasionada con el ejercicio de su profession sobre todo con su envolmiento hacia la coumunidad nuestra dictando conferencias, y participando en diferentes ferias anual de la salud, en Diferentes, Ciudades & Estados de USA.

Actualmente la Dra.Cuestas realiza una practica muy exitosa en Long Island ,New York.

BIO-Dra.Luz Cuestas

Dr. Luz Cuestas is a Dentist that was born and raised in Colombia, (South America) she is an only child and was raised by two very hard working parents and her elementary and high school education were completed in a very recognized boarding school in her home city of Bogota.


Once she finished her secondary education she pursued her dream of becoming a Dentist in Xaverian University, a Jesuit university that has been alma mater to some of the most important figures of Colombia. She received her DDS in 1980 and soon after started working for the Colombian national army and The National Health Care System.


She worked in Colombia throughout the 1980’s but due to the political conflict that surrounded her country, she seeked political asylum in the US in the early 1990’s. She came in a critical situation and as a newcomer she began to reinforce her English skills and seeking a way to validate her degree here in the US.
Due to the circumstances, achieving this was not a short path, nor was it an easy one due to the fact that she not only had to care for herself but also for her 3 young children. While seeking the American Dream, she worked as a Dental Assistant and as a teacher in the Hempstead Public School System. During this time she was not only a teacher, she was also a student because she had to study for the Dental Board Examination and the TOEFL. After many struggles and sacrifices she was accepted in NYU dental school in the advanced standing program in 1999.

As a single mother and student she had many struggles to achieve her success she had to give up many things, one of them was her children; which she had to send away to Colombia to be taken care for while she completed her professional program in NYU.
Once she completed her degree in dentistry she was licensed not only in New York but she also successfully seeked licensing in many other states like Florida, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.
She has always been passionate about her profession and has always had the goal to be involved in community service and selflessly provide her services and when needed by sharing her knowledge.

Today she has the honor of having 3 college educated children all who have seeked bachelors in Biology and her older son is following her footsteps; he is also a Dentist and is currently specializing in orthodontics.

Today Doctor Cuestas runs a very successful practice in Long Island New York
