Flash, Flash Player, Enable Hardware Acceleration, Flash settings
...
ADOBE FLASH PLAYERWhen it works its good, when it doesn't its a headache!Well if you don't have ADOBE MACROMEDIA'S FLASH on your PC
you probably won't see many web pages loading since its used everywhere, especially on You Tube.
So many problems with it and a constant update, you might as well just read Adobe's pages on their website everyday to keep up with the changes.
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
Also you can check the release notes to find information on each version of Flash Player,
Very Helpful.
http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/releasenotes.html
But when its finally installed properly, its great to see all the videos to watch online
ADOBE FLASH SETTINGS:To turn off auto-updates for "Flash", you need to go to Adobe's Flash site and then click on the settings tab and advanced in that special Flash online settings web page they have.
Its the only way to adjust the Flash player controls. This will stop Flash from auto-updating and then I can choose when and if I want the new version.
Also many other settings in that On Screen Panel for its cookies and privacy too. Its time consuming but should be done with the Flash Player for best use.
How to set Flash Settings
http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04a.html
Also very important if you watch a lot of You Tube or Hulu Flash type videos and on other sites you really need to be aware that "Adobe Flash" is installed with
"Enable Hardware acceleration" as default.
I have noticed when Flash is re-installed or a new version that it does keep the previous setting made in the Flash Panel online or in the Contol Panel for Windows7.
If you have a separate Video card, this might be ok if its a newer card with GPU binding to the CPU. They have a link on Adobe's website where you can find out if your video card is able to work the GPU with it.
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/systemreqs/index.html
This could cause a flash video to have jitter or pausing because there is no hardware acceleration available on the PC so it doesn't work as well.
There are listings for NVidia, ATI, Intel Video Cards...
Most older cards can't do this since it has to work with the O/S.
And an onboard video chip should not use hardware acceleration either.
So its best to TURN OFF "Enable Hardware Acceleration" in the Flash settings so you get better performance from the playback.
Go to a video on You Tube.
Let it stream in , then Pause the video, right click once on the video window,
In the Context Menu select Settings in the dialog box, then Uncheck, Enable Hardware acceleration This should be the first Tab in the Dialog Box.
This will be set for all future flash videos and should be good for older systems.

You can also change the Flash Player Local Storage Web Settings the listing for s.ytimg.com, move the slider to Zero (0) and Check the Notice, Never Ask again.
Close out the window.
Now Flash playback should be smoother with practically no buffering after turning off the Local Flash caching in Opera. Maybe there is some type of conflict between the two.
I tried this and it really helps when on YouTube using Opera , I can watch without a constant re-buffering.
(tip read from Forum by Iksd My Opera member)
Important, Once you're done with the Global settings page , the info is saved, so you have to "close out" that page or window for the settings to correctly take place and be in operation for Flash.
If you still have "Flash" problems then get Adobe's Flash Uninstaller to remove all traces of Flash. This will help get all the stray Flash files deleted.
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
Then after this, Install the newest version of Adobe's Flash Player.
Be sure to get the Correct Version depending on what Browser is used and the Operating System of your PC.
PS - Flash is the biggest user of the computers RAM and CPU, so get it set for the best use of your pc or it will slow down everything.
Sometimes its better to download an older version to get rid of Conflicts.
The best thing for Flash is to download the Manual Installer for Flash offline NOT the quick Online install upgrade.
Then you can install it on your own PC desktop correctly and not get any toolbar as long as thats unchecked during installation.
You won't need that Adobe download manager add on adding more "junk" especially in Firefox. You have more control this way.
Also before you Install Flash Player Manually make sure you have ALL Browsers closed , All Instant Messaging Closed like Yahoo Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, ICQ,AIM,etc...they use Flash too, have the Anti-Virus in bypass mode when Installing Flash
Also, even if you don't use Internet Explorer you still need to have the "Internet Settings" in Control panel set up correctly so the Internet connection is working efficiently, thru Winsock.
Yes even if its not used, those "Windows" O/S settings are active in the "Internet Options" box.
Like your Security and Privacy(accept cookies) has to be correct for your set up or there could be Flash streaming problems in Windows. http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html
The best thing is to "lower" the security settings to Medium and accept all cookies in Internet Options, so it doesn't block whatever cookies or stream is sent to another browser.
The anti-virus will still have realtime monitoring, so there won't be any chance of a virus as long as thats working too, and allow Flash to run with no interference from the A/V.
Yeah, Flash is getting to be a real headache in having it run properly with all the diffferent O/S systems out there.
From Adobe's website, looks like they are finally going to have a "Flash Control Panel" on your local computer instead of the online settings panel starting with Flash 10.3 whenever thats released.
Native Control Panel – The Global Settings Manager is currently a SWF residing on macromedia.com, Flash Player 10.3 provides users with streamlined controls for managing their Flash Player privacy, security and storage settings. Windows, Mac, and Linux users can access the Flash Player Settings Manager directly from the Control Panels or System Preferences on their computers.
YEAH!
Also its worth a look at this help page from Firefox Help

You Tube, Streaming, Video, Flash
...
Don't take this so seriously
Just have to Rant n Rave about this...
Wow can we Overload the "Flash" on You Tube anymore with all this HQ HD oversized videos constantly loading????
Why can't You Tube be like it was last year,or like in 2007 it was better before Google bought it, just a simple video box to watch, now it has to be Higher Quality, bigger screen size, advertisements, pop ups and before the video starts that you want to watch it shows an Ad !
Overloaded on many PC's that they freeze-up until its done!
So I looked on "My Account Settings" to see if something could be done to stop this incessant push to increase higher resolution video streaming in eating more bandwidth.
Found it,
Sign in to your You Tube Account, Under Your Username dropdown arrow in the upper right ,
go to My Account, then Playback Setup, under Video Quality Playback, select
"I have a slow connection. Never play higher quality video"
I also unchecked show Captions and show Annotations they are annoying too.
Yes now all that 'push' for HQ stops most of the time.
I'd rather have a quick video streaming at 240p than a slow wait and stall at 360p 480p or higher.
Besides a lot of video uploads are very low quality and HQ doesn't help it since they were made poorly.
I have DSL at 1.5Mbps its faster than Dial-up but I don't want to overload it with excessive broadband bandwidth "hogs" like 12- 25 Mbps ISP's.
This will probably help a wireless set up too.
Now You Tube works much more efficiently on DSL without all that extra overhead constantly trying to upgrade the streaming of the Video.
Google/YouTube just keeps remaking the pages with new scripts and ads almost daily trying to override browser settings and Flash to get you to use
Google Chrome
no wonder they have so many crash/conflicts happening! its overactive
